We’re thrilled to announce that Healing Scars (Maayuma-li Mubirr) by Yuwaalaraay storyteller Warren Mason has been invited to feature as part of Spiderwoman Theater’s 50th Anniversary Festival.

This will be an international cultural exchange bringing together creative movers and shakers from Turtle Island, Aotearoa and First Peoples Australia.ounded in 1975 by Kuna and Rappahannock sisters Muriel Miguel, Gloria Miguel, and Lisa Mayo in Brooklyn, New York, Spiderwoman Theater is the oldest continuously operating Native American feminist theatre company in the Americas.

The company is internationally celebrated for pioneering its unique Storyweaving theatrical style and for five decades of groundbreaking First Peoples performance. So it is an honour to be invited to share and celebrate our culture and country on theirs.

Healing Scars (Maayuma-li Mubirr) is making international waves before its Australian premiere—a remarkable achievement that reflects years of building trusted relationships and creating bold First Peoples storytelling.

But before it travels to the Big Apple, it will have its Australian premiere at Carriageworks from this Wednesday 15th playing until Saturday 18th of July 2026. We'd love to see you there—tickets are on sale now.

STEP UP TO THE STAGE. MAKE ART HAPPEN.

As Moogahlin Performing Arts heads into our 20th year, we’re continuing our mission of Transformation through Cultural Arts — developing and producing First Peoples stories for the stage.

For 2027 we’ve established Step Up to the Stage, our Creative Development Fund, supporting Moogahlin-produced works through those final stepping stones from development to presentation.

The first work for this campaign is IMIGO by Jacob Boehme.
First developed through Yellamundie Festival 2025, IMIGO is a theatre concert telling the life story of Michelle Tobin, a Yorta Yorta mother, grandmother, advocate and convenor of the Positive Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Network.

The initial creative team included Jacob Boehme, Shari Sebbens, Ursula Yovich, Adam Ventoura, Tawhi Thomas and Michelle Tobin.

In 2027, IMIGO will Step Up to the Stage, joining a growing body of Yellamundie Festival works produced and presented by Moogahlin, including The Weekend by Henrietta Baird, The Visitors by Jane Harrison, The Last Shot by Troy J Russell and Maayuma-li Mubirr by Warren Mason. Demonstrating our commitment to our independent artists and their stories.

Our target for this campaign is $2,000 towards IMIGO’s final development.

Whether it’s $20, $50, $100 or $500 — every amount counts.

Help us support First Peoples stories to take that next step.

STEP UP TO THE STAGE.
MAKE ART HAPPEN.

WILCANNIA — THANK YOU! 🌈✨

To every child, woman, man — and his dog — who came out for Koori Gras Divas: One Night Only in Wilcannia, thank you.

We are genuinely humbled by the energy, joy and love the Wilcannia community brought into the room. It was such a beautiful night celebrating LGBTQI+ culture, First Peoples artistry, family and community together.

A special moment for us was seeing Dallas Webster / Nova Gina surrounded by so much family support. There’s something really powerful about bringing this work into remote communities and seeing artists celebrated by their own mob, family and friends.

The Divas finished the night with a Dolly Parton number in honour of Dolly and our sister Petina Petina Petina who was unable to come along for this performance. Looking forward to next year.

A huge thank you to the supporters who helped make it possible for us to bring Koori Gras Divas to Wilcannia:
Creative Australia, Create NSW, The Wales Family Foundation, ACON, Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Corporation and all of our generous donors and supporters.

Most of all — thank you, Wilcannia, for showing up with so much heart.
We can’t wait to come back. 💖

Photos by Stephen Wilson Barker and his trusty interns who didn't drop the cameras.

Last week at APAX in Magandjin/Brisbane, Artistic Director, Lily Shearer (Murrawarri/Ngemba) and Executive Producer, Natano Fa’anana (Samoan) presented a retrospective on the success and impact of the Yellamundie Festival. Yellamundie Festival is Moogahlin’s flagship national platform for First Nations storytellers and trademark.

Alongside Lily and Natano for their first APAX, they were joined by Moogahlin Regional Producer, Megan Kelly (Barkinji/Weilwan) and independent artists Jo Clancy (Wiradjuri), Peta Strachan (Dharug) and Warren Mason (Yuwaalaraay), all Yellamundie Festival alumni. Yaaning about their new First People’s works Warriwal (Jo), Garrigarrang Badu (Peta) and Maayuma-li Mubirr (Warren). Supported by Moogahlin’s workforce development program funded by Creative Australia.

It was an enriching experience making new connections and nourishing existing relationships. Thanks for having us APAX!!

Also a huge congratulations to @ilbijerri_theatre on receiving the PAC Australia IMPACT Award for BIG NAME, NO BLANKETS!

The IMPACT Award recognises BIG NAME, NO BLANKETS’ ability to connect with audiences in a wide range of settings — from major festival stages to communities with limited access to live theatre.

A deadly recognition of the reach and impact of this incredible work. Big congratulations to everyone involved! 👏🏾 by @moogahlin
