🏃🏻‍♂️ Fundraising link in bio#oceanstooutbackchallenge #🏃🏻‍♂️ So I probably haven’t pushed this out much, but our Emergency Services team (the 3 of us) are doing 100 km each for Oceans to Outback , to raise funds for our mates over at the Royal Flying Doctor service. We spend a fair whack of time packaging very sick people up and putting them on RFDS planes, so we get to see first hand how these RFDS legends sack up and get people to life saving care. I’ve even flown with them as a punter, and the care I received was top notch 🐍 If you reckon you can spare an Australian institution like RFDS the price of a beer to keep them flying, or you just like watching me run in the Eastern Pilbara heat while sucking down flies and figure it’s worth a couple of bucks, please click the link and donate. Nineteen years of being a dad. Nineteen years of learning, growing, getting things wrong, getting back up and loving five little people through every version of life.

And somehow, this year feels different.

Because this is your first Father’s Day with our girl.

I’ve watched you be a dad for years, but watching you become Ryn’s dad has made me see you in a completely different light. There is something about watching the man you love hold your baby that reaches somewhere words don’t quite know how to get to.

Before she was born, I wondered what parts of you she would get. Your eyes. Your smile. Your laugh. But now, more than anything, I hope she gets your heart.

I hope she gets the part of you that quietly carries everyone else when they’re struggling. The part that makes us laugh when life feels heavy. The part that loves without needing recognition. The part that shows up, again and again, even when you’re tired, even when it’s hard, even when nobody is watching.

You have been Dad to four for almost two decades, and now you get to do it all over again with our little girl. And watching those worlds come together, watching the boys with their sister, watching you with her.. makes me realise just how incredibly lucky we are to have you.

Ryn will never remember the first time she was placed in your arms. She won’t remember the nights you got up, the cuddles, the tiny moments, or the way you looked at her like your whole world had suddenly changed.

But I will.

I’ll remember watching you become her dad.

And I’ll remember thinking, there you are. That’s the man I chose to build a life with.

Happy first Father’s Day to our girl’s dad, and happy 19th Father’s Day to the man who has spent almost half his life being Dad.

She is here
Strong, steady, and already so deeply herself.

We chose her name with great love and intention.

Ryn is our modern echo of “Rien,” the call name of Megan’s grandfather Marinus. It carries the sound of her maternal grandparents, honouring the generations who shaped us. Ryn reflects quiet strength and dignity — and from the very beginning, she showed us just how strong she is.

Lieve is the feminine form of Lieven, Ryn’s great-grandfather’s middle name. In Dutch, “lief” means beloved, dear, gentle. She has been loved through every moment — the easy ones and the hard ones.. and she arrived wrapped in that love.

Doohan connects her to her dad, her four big brothers, and her paternal grandfather. It roots her firmly in the family who surrounds her with pride and protection.

Her name carries legacy from both sides.
Reshaped, renewed, and carried forward in her.

She grew through long days and uncertain moments. She was steady when we needed steadiness. She was strength when we needed strength. And now she is here.

Nearly time to meet our little girl. Living slow the last few weeks, lots of coffee and mocktail dates, plenty of unexpected glass off arvo surfs, fresh fish, time with the boys, op shopping and appointments. I think she’s going to look like mini Megs. by @moohan83

Bit odd to be flying straight back up to work after nightshift, but I had the opportunity to show the fam where I disappear to for a couple of weeks every month. The boys are calling it the highlight of their holidays, getting a chance to get behind the wheel of the Dump Trucks (simulators and real ones), invited up to the flight deck of an A320, and lots of food and ice cream. They just had to put up with dad pointing out every fire truck and clinic I work in 😄 taken in Marble Bar Road by @moohan83

Nearly didn’t go. Fuel prices too high. Water too warm for salmon. Swell too big. Then figured it might be a while before we got another chance and sent it. Chance and Seb have been wanting to get into some Salmon for a while and we couldn’t find them last year, found plenty of early season fish this trip. taken in Bremer Bay by @moohan83

Exmouth, October ‘25. 6 days staying at Yardie Creek Homestead after the trek up the coast. Lucked into fun waves most days, snorkelling with the kids, oysters off the rocks and a few fish.
