I made my original logo in 2023, but recently I kept thinking I needed something that felt more like what I want MTC to really be - a business that emphasizes magic that exists in our world. Our world is dark, and I want to help bring light. Magic is present inside you. I want you to emotionally invest in Moon Turtle Creations because you can be yourself here. I have always felt too weird for “normal” people and not weird enough for “weird” or alt people. And as I’ve gotten older, I’m getting more comfortable with the idea that that means I’m pretty good at just being me. This week’s Feature Friday looks at “Dientes del Diablo”😈🦷 These earrings are inspired by devil’s tooth mushrooms (picture included for you to see). I love how gross and uncomfortable looking they are. The mushrooms are howlite. They have small red, glass beads and sterling silver teeth charms dangling underneath. Howlite is beneficial for handling challenging emotions. The teeth charms were a little on the nose lol but I thought they were so cute and creepy! I decided to use Spanish for the name of these earrings because I liked the alliteration, but also because I’m Mexican. I’ve used Spanish for some of my other pieces too. Today’s Feature Friday star is “Bloodlust”🫀 This piece roots itself in velvet, draped and fortified in stainless steel chain. At it’s center, a sterling silver anatomical heart with dripping garnet, glass, and steel. Bloodlust is inspired by gothic characters like Interview with the Vampire’s Claudia and Morticia from the Addam’s Family. I wanted the necklace to feel dark and luxurious - a statement piece for anyone who revels in the night’s somber mirth. The chain is sewed on with red thread to add a vibrant pop of life, reflecting blood. The stainless steel spikes at the bottom mimic teeth. She is still available! Next on Feature Friday - Cardiac Lament! These were a part of my poisonous plant drop. Wolfsbane (photo included at the end) was the poisonous plant inspiration. The earring itself is modeled after what the plant looks like with a spike charm to hint at danger and the chains to represent how the plant is chained to or connected to death. The name of these earrings comes from a couple things: 1.) Wolfsbane is known to be toxic and cause cardiac issues if ingested. On the show Ginny and Georgia, Georgia puts some of this pretty plant in her husband’s breakfast smoothie to give him a heart attack - hence the cardiac part. 2.) I love The Nightmare Before Christmas, and my favorite song from the movie is Jack’s Lament. And I thought it would be neat to play on that wording with Cardiac Lament because the heart is crying out as it is poisoned! I came up with the design for these earrings around 11:45 at night and then stayed up until about 12:45 making ONE of the earrings.
