i think the most beautiful thing about this life is all the seasons it brings. all the laughter, the quiet, the loneliness, and the transmutation of suffering into joy.

i tend to take breaks when i feel like i’ve forgotten who i am. but thankfully, my memory has improved. and now i want to continue to live in the light✨🌙☀️🌊

cute enough and blessed 🌺🥭🦋

Recently my roommate and I were chatting about how our families and societies shaped the way we view ourselves as women. Specifically as women of colour. It really got me thinking of the little me that I still see when I tilt my head as I smile. After a long time, it’s only now at the age of 24 that I feel more in harmony with all the younger versions of myself. Back then, I would sometimes lay awake at night and pray that I would hopefully be beautiful when I grew up. I definitely didn’t think I was pretty because apparently there were a lot of reasons as to why i wasn’t. Whether it be my weight, my skin tone or my hair, there were a lot of voices in my head telling me how I should be. I wonder why I listened to them in the first place, when they weren’t even my own.

But the past, is the past, there is nothing that can be changed about it. However, as I’ve grown spiritually, I have also actively made an effort to accept myself as I am, and give unconditional love to young me. From the little girl I was, to who I am now, there is a peace in me knowing that I am wonderful just the way I am.

It’s kinda cool to be able to look at the mirror and look at yourself with love, even on the days when it’s hard to do so. Now, not only do I know I’m beautiful, I truly believe it. I hope that everyone can also believe that to be true of themselves too.

It took me a minute, but I am grateful to the many women around me (especially my brown and black women), for showing me that beauty isn’t a trend, but rather an essence and energy, an overflowing of life and love that changes the people around you.
