“Her braid begins where memory rests,
woven close and carried strong;
three strands crossing, holding stories
that have travelled all along.

She steps into the river of it,
a woman moving with the flow,
past blossoms opening beside her,
toward the roots she longs to know.

The braid bends onward through the seasons,
through quiet waters, wind, and rain;
each turn reveals the strength she carries,
each crossing joins her past again.

And where the braid meets Mother Earth,
her roots reach deep and her spirit grows.
The river does not end beneath her;
it carries her strength wherever she goes.”

Looking at my September schedule fills my heart with so much gratitude.

Over the past three years, I have built so many meaningful relationships and been given opportunities I once could only hope for. To be busy doing what I love sharing Indigenous culture and reconciliation through creativity and art, it’s such an amazing feeling.

Balancing this work with a full-time position can definitely be exhausting at times, but I am so proud of how far I have come. There was a time when I struggled to use my voice. Today, my artwork has helped me find the confidence to speak, teach and share what is meaningful to me.

I am deeply grateful to every person, school, organization and community that has trusted me with these opportunities and supported me along the way.

Although I do not yet see myself as a Knowledge Keeper, I know I carry knowledge through my art, through the way I express my culture and through the way I share reconciliation. This is the knowledge I am honoured to share and I hope one day I am confident enough to accept that title.

Thank you to everyone who has believed in me, encouraged me and made space for my art. I am truly grateful for you 🧡 by @moonemis.creeations

“Upon the mushroom,
a butterfly opens the night
listening to the roots below,
Where the wildflowers begin to grow.

One wing carries the moon,
the other the stars
a little night sky,
learning how to fly.

She does not rush her becoming.
She trusts the darkness,
for even the smallest wings
can carry the light home.”

This piece represents strength and remembrance. I chose this imagery to honour MMIW because Indigenous women carry so much strength, beauty, and resilience, even through pain and loss. The butterfly represents spirit and transformation, a reminder of the ones we’ve lost and how they’re still with us. The wings hold her up and surround her, like protection, a reminder to uplift and remember our women, girls and 2 spirt people.

This piece is about creating space for them, honouring who they are, and making sure they’re never forgotten. #mmiw #indigenousart #indigenousartist #woodlandart #nativeart by @moonemis.creeations

“In the Silence, I Bloom”

A visual meditation on stillness, healing, and the quiet power of reconnecting with the land. At the centre, a figure sits grounded and open, surrounded by the gentle embrace of evergreens, wildflowers, and the golden warmth of the sun. Above, the triple moon symbol reflects the cycles of growth, rest, and renewal; an embodiment of the sacred feminine and the phases of life we all pass through.

This artwork speaks to the strength found not in noise or movement, but in presence. It honours the moments when we pause, when we breathe deeply and allow ourselves to be rooted physically, spiritually, and emotionally. The earth offers a place to rest, to feel held, and to begin again.

Each element in this piece exists in harmony, echoing the balance we can find when we surrender to the silence. It is in these quiet spaces where the world softens and distractions fade that true growth begins. Like wildflowers rising from the forest floor, we too bloom when we give ourselves time to be still.

“In the Silence, I Bloom” is a gentle invitation to return to that stillness, to honour your own phases, and to trust in the quiet strength of nature and spirit.

“She is a daughter of the land, honouring the women who came before her. She weaves their memories into every strand of her braid, rooting herself in the strength they placed beneath her feet and carrying their love within her heart.

Guided by the teachings they entrusted to her, she stands ready to guide the women who come after her.

As she waits, she continues to learn from Mother Earth: listening through the turning of the seasons, the blooming of wildflowers, the delicate wings of a butterfly, and all the teachings held within the world around her.

The more she listens, the more she understands her purpose: to walk gently, care deeply, and protect every life held by the land.”

I created this piece to honour the spirits of our stolen loved ones, support families in their fight for justice, and stand with all who are working toward change. This piece is a prayer, a remembrance, and a promise to never stop speaking their names.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit people (MMIWG2S), a national crisis that continues to impact Indigenous families and communities across Turtle Island. The red handprint is a powerful symbol used throughout the movement to represent the silenced voices of our stolen relatives—those who were taken through violence, neglect, and systemic injustice.

At the heart of this piece stands a woman in red, facing a twilight sky beneath the phases of the moon. She represents all those who are missing and all those we continue to remember. The moon phases reflect the sacredness of women, the passage of time, and our continued connection to those who have gone on. She stands in a moment of transition, between day and night, where grief, remembrance, and strength all exist together.

Surrounding her are floral patterns incorporating the medicine wheel colours: red, yellow, black, and white. These colours represent the four directions, the four stages of life, and the balance of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Each flower carries a prayer for healing, justice, and unity, rooted in culture and ceremony.

The MMIWG2S movement brings awareness to the disproportionate levels of violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirit people due to ongoing colonialism, racism, and gender-based discrimination. It calls for truth, accountability, and the protection of Indigenous life. It is a movement grounded in love, strength, and a refusal to be forgotten.

We remember them. We fight for them. We carry them with us. Always ❤️ #missingandmurderedindigenouswomen #mmiwg2s #indigenousartist #canadianartist🇨🇦 by @moonemis.creeations
