after years of aspiring to view the Western larches of Cascadia, i finally made my way to the Northern Cascades with a friend to chase the gold through the mountains. if it wasn't the lit-from-within, glowing larches that stunned us, it was the intense contrasts of passionate crimson subalpine huckleberry, blue-gray granite mountains streaked with iron oxide, jade scrub firs, & crystalline glacial lakes that made us feel stoned with wonder & beauty. trail miles & switchbacks tumbled by effortlessly, fueled by awe & summit coffee. we befriended a young man on a months'-long solo journey through the northwest in pursuit of the same wildness & beauty, and invited him to camp for good music, good hangs, & good food - a starry night that stitched together the quintessential experiences of PNW mountain wanderlust & community so succinctly, magically. taken in North Cascades National Park by @mooninism

what an utterly sublime day to run through Forest Park today. half training run powered by @jbrekkie 🎧 i thought of Andy today, as my thoughts ramble and weave with the distance and onset of pain, fatigue. i wonder where you are, if I'll see you in the next life, I asked for a sign. and i heard your song when I turned the radio on in my car when I collapsed inside of it - either it was the sweat evaporating from my skin, or a fleeting brush of familiarity from the thereafter, but I felt that electricity of comfort and grief. but I felt love. taken in Forest Park-Thurman St by @mooninism

the highlight of the day was on the walk back to the car in the dark, seeing a massive fiery meteor sailing overhead, burning hot white with a bright red tail for a solid few seconds, then break into two in the atmosphere before fading out. I've always heard Loowit was enchanted, possessed a magic of her own, & in that celestial moment it spellbound me. taken in Gifford Pinchot National Forest by @mooninism
