Rivers of delicacies in a chic soho loft for a 50th birthday celebration. A cornucopia of flavor. by @moonlight.monger

In August we visited a @chesse_cheese warehouse sale & got to talk to some lovely people including one of our Oldways Cheese Coalition Monger Members, Cori Strell @moonlight.monger!

We asked Cori why traditional and raw milk cheeses matter. Here are her thoughts!

Follow along as we continue to post about what we learned, who we talked to & what cheeses we loved leading up to International Raw Milk Cheese Appreciation Day on October 17th! by @moonlight.monger

Finding my whey🌬️

Visited family in Vermont, so i took the opportunity to visit new and old friends at @jasperhillfarm and @vontrappfarmstead - then i shared the delicious cheeses i picked up with my auntie and her partner, guiding them through a tasting in her garden. The next day I made a grazing board for my cousin and his fiancée for their engagement celebration.

Last week, I spoke to someone at @oldwayscheese recently how good quality cheese is vital to a better world; - for soil health - microbes without mono-cropping; good for insects too. Then, there’s the industry, the chain of laborers with low carbon lifestyles and dignified work. Well taken care of of people, make sure those cows are well taken care of, and in turn produce delicious cheese. Cheesemaking is my current favorite case study and manifestation of what sustainability looks like- something I’ve spent years studying.

As a huge fam of Harbison and Oma, it is easy to rep these incredible creameries. If you havent yet - try them! Or for something hard - get Savage or Cabot Clothbound. It was immensely interesting to see how it is done and how they differ. I’m very happy for my friends Carl and Lilith who have good lives making the best cheese.

Some of these photos include the namesakes for some of the iconic cheeses! Including Baley Hazen Rd and Caspian Lake.

I think we hit all the benchmarks on this one:
Pride ✔️
Vegan✔️
Kosher ✔️
Meat & Cheese✔️
Nut Free ✔️
Gluten Free ✔️

Kat is the only one in the game I’ve come across offering incredible cheese, vegan options, and kosher options with an atuned sensitivity to cross contamination with nuts or gluten. Her inclusivity is what drew me to work with her - her work embodies accessibility, variety, and joy.
