The Gentle Shadow of Kabar 🖤

The house holds a silence, heavy and deep,

A space where my black German Shepherd would sleep.

No shadow now follows, no soft, hurried tread,

Just echoes of safety, since Kabar is dead.

A knight in his coat, a rich sable hue,

With eyes that held wisdom and kindness for you.

His ears cropped from bites, though the memory of play with the herd,

They were worn like a medal, a silent, proud word.

He wasn't certified, no official bright vest,

But the peace he delivered was always the best.

A soul sympathetic, instinctively kind,

A therapy dog woven by heart and by mind.

He knew every burden, each sigh, and each tear,

And leaned in with solace, dispelling the fear.

A presence so humble, endearing, and sweet,

He lay at your side, making my world complete.

Though he looked like a soldier, a guardian of might,

His spirit was gentle, a beacon of light.

A big, sensitive hero, who asked for so little,

Whose love was enduring, whose heart was not brittle.

The leash hangs unused, the bowl sits stone cold,

But the stories he gave me will never grow old.

Run free now, dear Kabar, beyond the sun's rays,

For my best friend and love.. My leafy peach
Steven ..
In shadows deep, where remorse resides,
A tale of betrayal and regret abides.
Within my heart, a heavy burden bears,
For I failed my friend in his darkest affairs.

Oh, cowardice, my unwelcome guide,
Why did I let fear swallow my stride?
When cancer's grip clutched him so tight,
I shrank away from the farewell's plight.

The knowledge weighed upon my soul,
Yet I chose silence, a coward's role.
In my weakness, I denied him solace,
And now, he's gone, forever in the abyss.

Unconditional love he freely bestowed,
Through life's tempests, he always showed.
A pillar of strength, his spirit pure,
How could I forsake such a friend so sure?

No rectifying words can turn back time,
No penance erases this guilt of mine.
For I am left with memories untold,
Of a friendship lost, a story left cold.

The pain of regret, an eternal ache,
A constant reminder of the choices I make.
I'll never forgive myself, this much is true,
For failing a friend who trusted me through.

In the depths of remorse, I now reside,
Grieving a friendship that fate denied.
But let this be a lesson, a beacon of light,
To cherish our loved ones, to hold them tight.

For life is fleeting, and moments are dear,
Speak your truth, banish your cowardice and fear.
May my tale serve as a warning bell,to avoid this hell.
Honor friendships, before they bid farewell.

Antheraea polyphemus
It started with a caccoon I found. I kept the cocoon safe through the winter and when she emerged this summer she immediately attracted a mate. they're free to leave but to my absolute delight, they stayed for days. I like to think she knew I needed a friend. by @moonlit_matt
