This @bardstownbourbonco Discovery Series 12 is absolutely banging, and I hate to see it go... but bottles are made to be drank around here.

I’m not one of those whiskey Instagram people who only shows off allocated bottles and somehow the bottle stays full for three years.

You know who you are... 😂

If it’s good, we drink it. If it’s REALLY good, we finish it and complain when it’s gone.

Discovery Series 12... you served the Tavern well.

Let’s do it!

Man, I am LOVING these @silverthornreserve releases! Every time one of these shows up at the Tavern, I’m like alright... what did y’all put together this time?

And I really dig the transparency with these releases. They straight up tell you what’s in the blend. No smoke and mirrors, no guessing game, just here’s what we blended... now drink it.

And dammit, they keep putting together some delicious whiskey!

If you haven’t given @silverthornreserve a try yet, you might want to fix that. I’m just saying... don’t come back later talking about “Moon, why didn’t you tell me?”

I just did.

What’s New Wednesday!

Well @broadbranchdistillery, you got me again.

This Grappa is the change I didn’t know I needed. I’ve never had Grappa before and, if we’re being completely fair, I wasn’t even sure what the hell I was getting myself into. But this is exactly why I love Broad Branch. They aren’t afraid to take chances and apparently I’m not afraid to drink those chances.

On the nose I’m getting vanilla, caramel, and a subtle grape note. Then the palate comes in swinging with grape, brown sugar, vanilla icing, and baking spice. Just a big ol’ flavor bomb.

The finish hangs around just long enough to remind you that this bad boy is 64.5%. Not in a “what have I done?” kind of way, but more of a “yep, there it is” kind of way.

This one is very limited, but if you happen to come across it, don’t let the word Grappa scare you off. Hell, I didn’t even know if I liked Grappa before today.

Turns out I do.

Booker is always watching.... always judging...lol! Thirsty Thursday with some @silverthornreserve .... I have said it before... @silverthornreserve is delicious and this rye is no different. With Texas taking down Ohio State, I figured this was as good a week as any to celebrate with a couple Texas pours! 😂〽️

But OSU blowing a 20 point lead in the 4th quarter aside, Austin 111 and Austin 121 Light Whiskey seriously impressed me. These are easily two of the most complex Light Whiskeys I’ve had.

Austin 111

The nose is caramel, brown sugar, red fruits and lemon zest....and man, this thing smells AMAZING.

The palate brings butterscotch and toffee, with that citrus zest still hanging around before finishing with a really nice peppery kick.

There’s a lot of sweetness here, but that zest and pepper keep everything balanced and make you want to keep going back to the glass.

Austin 121

This one took me somewhere completely different.

The nose is almost like a dusty crème brûlée with this faint roasted-peanut-shell note. The best way I can describe it is that subtle aroma you get walking into a Texas Roadhouse with peanut shells on the floor. It's not straight peanut.... it’s that faint, dusty, roasted nuttiness underneath the caramelized sugar and creamy vanilla.

And the palate follows the nose almost perfectly.

It starts with those same crème brûlée and faint roasted notes, then rolls into Werther’s candy and spiced sponge cake, finishing with a nice little kick.

These two really surprised me. They share some of that rich candy sweetness you'd expect, but they're completely different experiences in the glass.

111 gives me caramel, fruit, citrus, butterscotch and pepper.

121 goes darker and dustier with crème brûlée, roasted nuttiness, Werther’s and spiced cake.

I’m not picking a winner here. Both are a recommend, and both are among the most complex Light Whiskeys I’ve had come through the Tavern.

Of course, being Texas Whiskey after what happened to Ohio State certainly doesn't hurt. 😂🥃〽️

My good friend Jasper… y’all might know him as Jack 😂 stopped by the Tavern for a birthday pour, and I couldn’t help but fix the man a proper birthday spread!
We started the day with Jack Daniel’s Brown Butter French Toast and a Tennessee Mud Spiked Coffee. ☕🥃
But you know me… we weren’t stopping there.
For dinner I had to get things a little JACKED!
• Smoked chuck roast
• Homemade pickled red onions
• Homemade pickles
• Hawaiian slider
• And a Jacked BBQ Sauce made with Jack Daniel’s
And THAT bite paired with Jack Daniel’s Toasted Single Barrel…
Y’ALL.
Legitimately one of the best bites I’ve put together. The smoky chuck roast, sweetness from the Hawaiian roll, that tang from the homemade pickles and onions, the richness of the Jack BBQ sauce.... and then that Toasted Single Barrel coming right behind it…
Everything just complemented everything.
Of course, if you’re celebrating Jack’s birthday at Moon’s Tavern, one pour ain't gonna cut it...
So we took a little trip through the Jack Daniel’s lineup…
Heritage Single Malt ➡️ Jack 10 ➡️ Jack 12 ➡️ Jack 14…
and when it was time to put a damn exclamation point on the birthday…
COY HILL.
Brown butter French toast. Tennessee Mud coffee. Jacked BBQ. Toasted Single Barrel. Some absolutely ridiculous whiskey.
I’d say we did Jasper’s birthday right.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Jack Daniel. Thanks for giving us something worth raising a glass to.
