As I prepare this post, I can’t even begin to describe this summer. After my first summer last year, I knew I wanted to return and try to make this summer even better.

This summer was nothing short of perfect. I can confidently say this is my last summer as an orientation leader; why mess with perfect? This was the perfect curtain closer to what has been such a rewarding experience in my life.

There are so many people I want to thank:

To my returners, “The Power 8.” We all knew what happened last summer and the impact we wanted to make this summer, and boy did we achieve that and so much more. Being able to run it back with y’all and to learn and grow because of your incredible leadership made me never feel alone.

To my Student Coordinators, Andrew, Jeremy, and Collin, for being the backbone of the team and making sure we always had what we needed, when we needed it. Thank you for always making sure I was ok and for kicking butt all summer.

To the interns, Jayla and Kaitlyn, for taking a chance on North Texas and for always being willing to talk to me. Having two incredible student leaders from Texas and Chicago made for lots of stories, sidequests, and adventures in Dallas, which I will remember for years to come.

To my Brown Beavers, Abby, Klira, Maddie, Nevaeh and Sammie, I was tasked with being a mentor this summer as a returner, and I had you guys. As your #GirlDad, there was no better feeling than seeing you all have the summer you did. In times of sadness, I knew my beavs were always smiling, so I should do the same. Bucky Jr. and I are so proud of each of y’all and can’t wait to keep seeing you guys shine.

Lastly, to the new orientation leaders, for being overly loud and willing to learn. You all kept me on my feet and made me realize this team was truly special. I feel deeply connected to all 23 of you and hope you all know I am still here if you need me.

2 years, 2 summers, 26 freshman orientations, and thousands of students later, I feel ready to turn in my group sign and gold nametag that says “orientation leader” behind.
