FULL TIME: MOOR FC 3–4

Defeat on paper. A statement everywhere else.

The scoreline doesn’t tell the story. For long periods today, Moor were the better side — and for a squad playing its first competitive game together, there was so much to be proud of.

First, Gareth Murphy. The work people don’t see — refs, league calls, pitches, changing rooms, helping lads out of his own pocket — then putting the kit on and running himself into the ground. This club is lucky to have him.

The same goes for everyone giving their time behind the scenes. Michael Campbell, Kevin Banana and everyone else helping us build something properly.

On the pitch, Stjon Clement grabbed a brace and an assist — passing up the chance of a hat-trick to put the team first.

Aaron tore their left side apart. They changed the man trying to stop him again and again. It made no difference.

And our young lads? First competitive adult game and they feared nobody.

MarxT was outstanding. Tom Johnstone looked completely at home over 90 minutes. Hydie battled through injury. Harry gave us everything. Jordan Garry made an impact with the minutes he had.

Then there were two performances that summed up exactly what we want Moor FC to be about:

JOSH MURPHY.
WILL FORBES.

Blood, sweat and everything they had.

Indomitable.

Joe Curley never took a backwards step either. Fearless, competitive and ready to stand up for his teammates.

We’ve got things to fix. Conceding four is frustrating because the goals were preventable — but those mistakes can be coached.

What you can’t coach is hunger, bravery, intensity and togetherness.

We showed all four.

And we’ve still got players to come into this squad.

If we bring that level every week, this team will take some stopping.

First game back.

Plenty learned.

Nothing but pride.

This is only the beginning.
