Day 5 (last day of my @themenalontrail adventure) Valtesiniko-Lagkadia: 12.5km. Started early, finished later than the estimate. Story of my life! But another beautiful day, alone again on trail so I could huff and puff with only judgment from the lizards.
(In five days of hiking, only saw seven hikers on the second afternoon.).
Some shade early on but towards the end, hot and exposed and never was I so glad to see the terracotta roofs of Lagkadia. Getting over there took a lot of extra effort - the village is built on several vertical layers. I emerged at the top, slogged down with google maps to my accommodation to find no one there and the name changed. More googling, found a place up the very top. Back up I went, into the loving arms of Giannis and his mother, Voula, and found heaven at Forest Cosy Home!
Gifted eggs, exquisite olive oil and homemade biscuits, I settled in on the large balcony with views of the surrounding mountains and didn’t move for a day ☺️.
I loved hiking this trail despite finding it very tough at times. It’s only rated moderate but I’m out of shape! And doing it in summer was a bit daft.

Day3: Elati-Vytina 8.5km; Vytina-Nymphasia 5.6km.
Managed to make one of the easiest days hard by again missing a marker and wandering around in the sun for an hour 🤦‍♀️ however, still a beautiful walk, which included an old mule track, abandoned water mills and respite in Vytina with its shops selling delicious mountain honey. But a joy at the end of a tough day was Agropoli Apartments outside Nymphasia where Stavroula and her husband spoilt me with care and attention and food 😋
Day 2: two more sections combined. Nymphasia-Magouliana 8.9km. Didn’t get lost, but still tough with a lot of ascending up to the Peloponnese’s highest inhabited village (I’ve read a few different heights!) Gorgeous place. Stopped for food at taberna - there in the kitchen was a taxi driver who’d given me a lift in another village!
Magouliana-Valtessinikou: 6.6km: finished the day and finished me when I reached village. So couldn’t find guesthouse. Owner’s husband finally found me 🥴. But then yet another gorgeous view, another fab place to stay!
Thus ends another long-winded post!

Days 1 & 2 on @themenalontrail, a 75km trail in Arcadia in the centre of the Peloponnese, southwestern Greece. Absolutely glorious. Day 1: Stemnitsa-Dimitsana: 12.5km (18km for me because, akeed, I got lost on this VERY well-marked trail. Mixture of ineptitude/inattention!).
Day 2: combined 2 sections. Dimitsana-Zygovisti 4.2km; Zygovisti-Elati 14.9km. Amazing mix of scenery from mountains to forest to meadows to cool streams. Butterflies, bees, birds, lizards and a tortoise. Finding it challenging in the heat with a ridiculously overweight pack, but then arriving in a gorgeous village with delicious food, beer/wine and lovely hospitality makes my stupidity not seem as bad! taken in Peloponnese, Greece by @moorabool

What a great adventure - 7 amazing days on Lycian Way with the supremely patient, chill and queen of directions first cousin once removed @tara.lloyd9 🥰 😆 We also made a new friend @dashvash! Both managed to put up with this old duck and kept me on the right track 😁. Stunning scenery, delicious food, fabulous and warm hosts, great connections with other hikers. Even my scrappy Duolingo Turkish paid off with the word for tortoise! Would love to do the whole Way some day 🥾. (Some pix by Tara, who’s also great photographer!) taken in Lycian Way by @moorabool

Some last pix from Malaysia: Kota Bharu to Penang bus (about 7 hours, map not exact route but you get the idea!) misty mountains and great lunch stop; and scenes and food from George Town including oh chien (oyster omelette), cendol (icy dessert with kidney beans, green noodles and coconut milk) and nasi kandar. Didn’t know there were so many kinds of durian. Could only manage a small piece of Musan King durian. Not sure I’ve acquired the taste yet! Overnight train from Johor Bahru down south up to Tumpat. Well, that was my plan. Yeoh, LeeLeng, Hang (and little Ava) knew there wasn’t a bus and were worried I’d be stranded ! So I alighted with them at Wakaf Bharu, caught a Grab to my digs at Kota Bharu (capital of Kelantan) and later this beautiful couple gave me a tour of the area- so I made it to Tumpat, which just happened to be Yeoh’s birthplace. And, of course, local delicacies !!!! 🙏❤️ taken in Kota Bharu by @moorabool

Exploring Fener, Balat and Eyüp by foot, tram and ferry. Couldn’t include cable car as Istanbulkart balance too low - discovered after 30min wait. Punishment for being lazy 😆

Another bucket list destination - dreamt of visiting Eskisehir since I first saw the design of its art museum @ommxart by @kkaa_official.
And the sculpture installed on site by bamboo artist Tanabe Chikuunsai IV is stunning.
Odunpazari (historic Old Town neighborhood) means “wood market” and the design pays tribute to the area’s history. Eskisehir, a university town, is about 300km from Istanbul on high-speed train. Loved the journey and destination. taken in Eskişehir Odunpazarı by @moorabool

A food and wine journey from Tbilisi and beyond. We have pkhali; adjaruli (or adjarian) khachapuri; guruli pie, more pastry delights filled with spinach and potato plus shot puri (baked in tandoor oven), tkemali (tart sour plum sauce); tomato, cucumber and walnut salad; the famous khinkali (and also pan fried in next pic); my daily pomegranate juice stall where the lovely vendor also provided homemade chacha; wine tasting at @kerovaniwinery; tomato and jonjoli salad (Georgian pickled capers); kikliko (egg bread); churchkhela; and a delicious treat I’m not really sure about but seemed to be similar to quark, covered in tahini, yogurt and topped with pistachios.
