Rahman, my first pointer, my best friend, my partner, a mirror, a compass, the one that has never said a word to me but taught me his weight in gold 🪞✨

He is the reason behind our name change to @morepointersplease, for now it’s just Rahman & I but someday there will be more paws on our paths 🤭

It’s not just about wanting more pointers, it’s also the wisdom and advice we exchange in our lives whether it be training, health, adventures, personal growth, sports, travel, etc! If you know me I love learning from others and also sharing what I have learned through my first hand experience and research. While I am grateful and rooted in my presence and beyond thankful for where we are let’s just say I have a strong passion for growth and strive to stay on point!

This space has always been about our experiences, the lessons we both have learned and the life we are building together 🥰

Another great day at V3! 🔥

Rahman started his formal gun dog training and introduction to birds 4 month ago, 4 months! He had just turned 2 years old a month earlier. Got a late start to the game but I am super impressed with how far he’s come and where we can go!
Recreationally and competitively! All thanks to @v3k9_jeremy of @v3gundogsk9academy for taking us in and seeing our potential! Last week when I was away on vacation and Rahman stayed behind for bootcamp (boarding 😂) Jeremy introduced
blank shots to him, I was surprised and so proud to see his progress! Rahman is on track to run the amateur gun dog stakes with the big dawwwgs this fall for his debut 😍 by @morepointersplease

Rahman had his second acupuncture treatment today!

He’s receiving this treatment at our primary vet, but with the one vet we hadn’t met there yet! I was ready to leave the practice completely after accepting we were not aligned, then here comes Dr. D’Alfonso, who beautifully integrates conventional western veterinary care with Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), and for us, this is everything I’ve ever wanted in a vet! I’ve never felt so understood, supported and aware!

Just before our appointment Dr. D told me she and another doctor in the office we used to see were talking about Rahman, and he was completely puzzled, saying everything random that has been going on has no explanation, but in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it makes complete sense! (cellulitis in his paw, anxiety, severe nose inflammation internal/external, kennel cough 2x & this summer particularly was hard staying active in the heat) All related to what he is being treated for with TCVM!

Most of us may be familiar with the words ying and yang ☯️ but if you’ve never heard the word “Qi” (pronounced chee) it is the fundamental concept of Traditional Chinese Medicine that translates to “vital energy” or “life force” that flows through all living beings! The pathway that Qi flows through is called Meridians!

In TCVM Rahman presents as very unique combination of the metal and earth element. Doctor D was fascinated by that! What he’s being treated for is called External Wind Heat and Dampness! It is an energetic pattern, influenced by spring/summer seasonal changes! Wind is considered a pathogen that carries the heat deeper under the skin so it’s not something a vet with only a conventional education would even be aware of! The goal with adding acupuncture to our tool box is to move the Qi to expel the wind to clear the heat and dampness. The needles are placed specifically to stimulate different parts of the body to assist in doing so! After they are poked, they will remain there for 20 minutes in Rahmans case and he is so relaxed to the point he is sleepy closing his eyes during the session! ʜᴀᴘᴘʏ ɴᴀᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟ ᴅᴏɢ ᴅᴀʏ 💛

The puppy I spontaneously met the last year in my 20’s
while I was navigating rebuilding myself and my life.

Most of my adult life has been filled with uncertainty, but one thing I was sure about was belief in myself, where I’m going and that we crossed paths at the right time 🥹🤧

Imagine you’re just walking to the gym, and you see a pile of 5 week old puppies in someone’s front yard getting some fresh air... How can you not go over to play with them!? Everyday. I didn’t even know what a German Shorthaired Pointer was. I just knew he chose me. Putting that deposit down a week later was the best decision I’ve made in my life.

Boy how quickly the best years of my life followed after the worst. To many more baby!

Going into public with a GSP, especially a sporting store, makes you feel like you’re kinda famous! Rahman and I go pretty much everywhere together which means any outing can really provide valuable training opportunities with unpredictable factors where you and your dog may have to make a decision about the scenario in front of you you’ve never seen before! It truly is a lifestyle after all, training and keeping those skills sharp is never a 1 and done kinda thing!

Most of the time we work on ignoring people because Rahman really does attract so much attention and I don’t always have it in me to engage! He’s such a happy guy & wants to say hi to any and everyone he sees but that’s not ideal so it works out for the both of us!

More recently I have been in the mood and open to interaction so we’ve been working on ✨polite✨ greetings! Which for us means not jumping up at the person saying hi (as much as some people like it, including me 🤭) This fall we have a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) preparation class with @logicallycanine we are super excited for to help focus on that skillset as well!

It’s so funny to me, often I’ll have Rahman in a down off leash while I’m looking at something, then I’ll glance over at him, and he’ll notice who ever stopped to admire him far before I do! That’s when I’ll ask them “do you want to say hi” and release him 🥰

Some people are fans of the breed, some people are meeting a GSP for the first time but everyone loves him & it makes me so happy! 🥹 The compliments we receive are a true testimony to our partnership and investment into one another 💛

What are some things you like to work on in public!?

Our time being a student ambassador for @logicallycanine is coming to an end but Kelsey is fortunately stuck with us forever now 💛 if you had your eyes on a class this could be your last week to use our name for a discount! #logicallycaninecrew

𝑀𝓎 𝒹𝑒𝒶𝓇 𝑅𝒶𝒽𝓂𝒶𝓃 💌

Thank you for teaching me that the deepest love doesn’t need words. It lives in the quiet that no one sees. The peaceful silence, the gentle pressure of our bodies relaxing into one another after a deep breath, or how we look at each other as if to say “did you see/hear that”. People say trust is earned, but I say you first have to give it for the chance to earn it. There isn’t a greater gift than being your person. It’s moments like these that mean more than a posed picture, maybe that’s why I keep them to myself 🤍
