POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A lil MTR update 💕

Another year of projects is in the bag and we just want to say a big thank you to all the artists, organisations, friends, allies and advocates that have been along for the ride.

We have decided to put a pause on our programming in 2026 to recharge, reflect and create some brain space for new ideas. Over the last 6 years, MTR has grown alongside us (professionally and personally), helping us to forge new paths and connections that we never could have anticipated as 3 fresh art school grads.

We are forever grateful for our printy pals, and it has been a privilege to help foster a supportive and intergenerational community for artists. We are so proud and grateful for everything that has come from this artist-run initiative.

This isn’t goodbye, just a see you in bit. We will continue to intermittently share opportunities, shows and other printy-related content on our stories here, as we take time to work on our independent practice and projects.

Wishing everyone a joyful, restful break — see you when we return in mid-2026.

Kisses,
More Than Reproduction

ARTIST PROFILE: LOIS WATERS

Lois Waters is a hard of hearing artist, currently based on Gadigal Wangal land in Sydney’s inner-west. Lois uses textile processes to visualise her experience of sound. She is interested in what materials can and can’t do, as a parallel for the limits and possibilities of the body.

Rounding out our Artist Profile program for 2025 we have a wonderful interview with Lois Waters covering sensory experience of artwork, using textiles as a print matrix and much more.

ARTIST PROFILE: APRIL PHILLIPS

April Phillips (@_april.p_ ) is a Wiradjuri-Scottish woman of the Galari / Kalari peoples, living and working in regional Australia. Her art practice is cemented in futurism and media arts; as lead artist / director working across moving images, illustration, 3D assets, AR research, and printmaking. She works within collaborative environments to realise ambitious projects, leading teams to do big things.

Back in 2021 we had the pleasure of connecting with April Phillips for our curatorial project, Dimensions Variable at Airspace Projects. Since then we have watched her practice expand and achieve some incredible things (including curating Super Kaylene Whiskey, now showing at the National Gallery!!).

April's print practice is bright, playful and we think you'll love it 💛 Read the full interview on our website. Link in bio 🔗

"I see my work as both a raw statement of presence and an exploration of the internal and external forces that shape my identity. By representing my own body, I reclaim space where I can control the narrative, rather than be defined by the dominant gazes, stereotypes, and cultural scripts that have historically rendered bodies like mine invisible or undesirable. "

In case you missed it, last month with interviewed Canberra-based artist, Elise Stanley (@elisestanley.art). Her practice is grounded in exploring personal experiences of femininity, vulnerability, and autonomy, using drawing and printmaking as a means to navigate the complexities of the body and lived experience.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) in Printmedia & Drawing from the Australian National University. Her practice is grounded in exploring personal experiences of femininity, vulnerability, and autonomy, using drawing and printmaking as a means to navigate the complexities of the body and lived experience.

Last month we had the absolute blessing of meeting Elise Stanley, someone we have been following and fanning over for a few years now. We asked Elise about what draws her to screenprinting, the power of materials as metaphor and much more.

“In my visual and written creative practices, I draw from personal experiences with trauma and complex relationship with my mother by using poetry as a support for the physical works that I create. I am looking at the terms with and after as metaphorical containers for the feelings that I find myself being unable to speak aloud or make sense of. I am interested in how the images that I use and take both hold for and from me at once; offering something while also keeping me at a distance.”

"I sewed the groups of socks together into a tapestry that resembles both an animal skin and old gym gear, cast off and hung from the rack. I am influenced by the pervasive nature of the coming-of-age narrative across all forms of media; specifically the bildungsroman and the hero’s journey. The Scrum is a deconstruction of these narratives, nonlinearly combined and remade to prioritise the contact so ardently refused by a national culture of ‘strong men’. In the acts of pushing toward and pulling away, The Scrum is the relic left behind."

"Annabelle McEwen probes the aesthetic potentials of contemporary technologies as means to expose, understand and visualise the power structures concealed. Using their body as a conduit for investigation, McEwen employs expanded methods of photography such as photogrammetry, gaussian splatting and other filtration to capture a virtual gaze of the body. They mediate the imagery, using computer-optics as a methodology and as an attempt to unveil the impact of algorithmically-curated streams on user’s autonomy and body."

We have been very fortunate to work with a number of friends on our curatorial project HARD/SOFT at @megaloprintstudio, including Kamberri/Canberra based artist, curator, and writer Chin-Jie Melodie Liu (@liucjmelodie).

Her written response to the show ‘Transforming Impressions: HARD/SOFT Exhibition’, is now up on our website to read. If you haven’t been able to visit the exhibition in person, this piece of writing offers a wonderful visual guide and journey through each of the works 💗

"My practice is rooted in my Cambodian cultural heritage and considers my upbringing in Australia as a fracture through which I can begin to unwind and untangle personal and historical traumas. Distance and absence become inciting moments through which my practice can emerge as acts of weaving, rituals, and material translations. By positioning memory, historical and personal stories, speculations, and the imagination as equally reliable archives, I hope to blur the lines between fact and fiction; to leave space to allow for the questioning of authority and authenticity inside the logic of colonisation."
