Our most logistically complicated shoot yet.

11 personnel, 35km of underground terrain, five days, all on an active site. Over eight months of pre-production, we meticulously mapped out how we would move through New Afton safely, documenting a never-before-seen world for a project truly the first of its kind.

Our assignment was to make a blockbuster-size tour video of the harshest working conditions on the planet: 2 hours down into the crust of the earth, where temperatures are over 40 degrees centigrade. We built our systems from the ground up. Custom Black Arm rig, dual RED Raptors for simultaneous coverage of vehicles, Inspire 3 and FPV drones flying underground, custom blast-proof camera housing, custom PPE-compatible radio communication, a mobile, protected, redundant video village for client monitoring…

The list goes on.

Our incredible crew, and the fantastic operations team at New Afton, pulled off the seemingly impossible. Our full 10-minute tour video will be available onsite at New Afton.

“LIVE WIRE” - A Visual Playlist: Now playing on Vimeo.

Last summer I asked my friends for a big birthday present: 3 consecutive days to make a short passion project. Inevitably, it turned into more than that, but everyone stayed long after my birthday had elapsed. Borrowed apartments, cars, cameras, connections and talent. I look back at this time and feel so proud to have these amazing people in my life and I am so thankful for their trust and commitment.

This project took on many forms over the last year, but what it has cemented into is a short piece inspired by music, love and grand gestures. I wrote the script in 2024, planned the shoot around the Festival of Lights in 2025, and found time for post in 2026. Always a bit tricky when projects go on that long, but here we are - giving it the summer release it deserves.

For Member Month, we're introducing you to MEC member @morgan.tien: a filmmaker and backcountry skier whose office is often wherever the most serious mountains are. A few weeks back, he took some MEC gear with him on a big project that has inspired us to think bigger:

"People don't often think about the Himalayas when India comes up. But they should. Complex and dramatic, the terrain lures the imagination to its boldest lines, and then humbles you immediately. Even tapped in with local guides, there's very little beta. Few established routes, zero rescue infrastructure, no margin.

I was approached last year to document a team of Indian women on a backcountry ski adventure through this range. I'd never been to India, never met the crew, but was inspired by the challenge.

Above 5000 meters, every step is a negotiation between time spent and energy saved. The overhead hazard looms above each move. There's nowhere to hide, and that illuminates exactly where your strengths are and where you need to come back stronger.

The environment strips your kit down fast. Carrying ~40 pounds of camera gear is part of the job, so everything else needs to earn its place. Thankfully, the MEC TGV 2 pulled its own weight at high camp. Fast setup, solid ventilation for cooking, pockets that kept gear organized, and a strong floor. Worth every gram.

This world is broken. And yet it keeps turning.

Unafraid, unprejudiced, undeniably gifted. There is nothing I thought Kai couldn’t do. I never worried about him; he was untouchable.

More than ever, we see how far his embrace reaches out into the world. But there were always signs. Kai returned from each trip with new skills, new vocabulary and new pen pals.

Kai would make a friend before we landed in a new country, and he would stay in touch long after we’d left. Always on mission, but never too busy to give time for the needs of others.

Over the years, I saw him grow into a shining example of a man I want to be. He seemed to learn faster and become bolder by the day. Always pushing the limit and carving a new path. I knew that in ten years we would be different, but we would never part.

I am lost now, but I trust that we will find our way forward. Because he is coming with me, and I know he’ll come with you if you ask him to.

The universe took back Kai. Now he takes his steps through those of us who keep going further. And we have so much more to do, together.

Love to all of you. I read every word of all your posts and all your comments and messages. Thank you so much.

A little showcase from our work at New Parallel for Escape Trailer. Couple different campaigns, a lot of passionate people with some real adventures along the way.

Front and center is our newest Directors Cut from Jared Putnam and Ronan Bryson. This one pulls all the pieces together and paints a wholistic picture of what Escape is made for.

Slides 2-5 highlight some snippets from the campaigns over the past two years. Across so many cuts, these are my favorite moments.

We recently spoke to @morgan.tien and @jaredputnam about a recent 3 episode mini series titled “REACHING PEAK” for @peakperformance freestyle athletes. Here is a breakdown of the insight they shared about this project

The project emerged from a fixation on the question of “what defines a champion?” Across sports, or disciplines, backgrounds and perspectives. I really wanted to capture a moment in time where pressure is on, time is short and seemingly everything is on the line. To put as Hunter Hess said, “qualifying for the olympics is the hardest part” and that the US Olympic Ski team “is the hardest team to qualify for of all time.”

The series was shot over November of 2025, in the build up to the qualification season for the 2026 Olympics. We chased down five atheltes across 3 freestyle skiing disciplines as they finished pre-season training in Europe.

Jared and I’s background as competitive freestyle skiers has always benefited us in our career as filmmakers. We are simply able to do things on skis that others can’t, and it makes for shots I think are really unique. We operate as an army of two when shooting skiing, always trying to compliment each others angles and having distinct skills with super slomotion shots or follow cams or very tight inserts. We also dual op the Inspire 3 for all those aerials you see in across the project.

Jared and I were in Europe for 25 days, 2 of which we had “off” and it was an insane push to get the series on air before the IOC Rule 40 went into effect.

The arctic light in Finland is truly special. Having an eternal golden hour, as the sun gently scrubs around the horizon gave us some of the softest light and creamy pastel colors that you see in episode 3.

Austria holds so much talent in the early-season. World’s firsts were going down left and right and it felt like every one was there at that time. It made it really chaotic and hectic flying the Inspire 3 and trying to pack in all the filming we wanted to do inside of their busy pre-olympic season training, but thats where the skeleton crew wins—flexibility. by @morgan.tien

The high-altitude research stations are home to some of the longest-standing glacier and cosmic radiation experiments in the world - and are surrounded by deadly alpine terrain.

REACHING PEAK EP 3: MOGULS

Live on YouTube, the series finale introduces us to the expansive arctic landscape of Ruka, Finland. Freestyle skiing has a legacy here, holding annual World Cups and providing training facilities that bring in global talent.

@maiaschwinghammer is Canada’s leading Mogul Skier. She’s starting her season pre-qualified for the olympics and riding off the best comp season of her career. She starts her season, back in Ruka, ready for what’s ahead and reflecting on years past.

I hope you enjoy the finale of Reaching Peak. This series was a huge effort across the past few months and we are really proud of everyone involved.

It brings me immense joy to say that all five of the athletes in this series have qualified for the Olympics.

REACHING PEAK EP 2: SLOPESTYLE

Live on YouTube, the second episode of this series drops us in the middle of Prime Park Sessions in Stubai Austria. A legendary training ground, that attracts the top competitors and produces many world firsts.

@annikarava and @mccormickchris are grinding out the last bit of training before the start of 2026 World Cup. They wear the same bibs, but with different stakes during the season.

Anni is a two time X Games Medalist and 2022 Olympian. She has been a dominant force on the World, and is barreling into the 2026 Games in full force.

Chris has been competing on the World Cup for nine years. He barely missed qualification for the 2022 Games and has been consistently building his skills and experience over that time.

I love seeing the different ways pro athletes find their path. For some it was inevitable, but for others it seems like an unlikely chain of events that resulted in something remarkable. Either way, they find themselves shoulder to shoulder, driven by the same core love of the sport, and I think that’s rather beautiful.

REACHING PEAK EP 1: HALFPIPE

Live on YouTube, this is the first of a three episode mini series following the @peakperformance freestyle athletes as they head into their 2026 World Cup and Olympic qualification season.

@jaredputnam and I shot this series in November 2025 just before the start of the competition season. Like most of the national teams, we were in Austria at a training camp. There was this palpable level of anticipation in the air. We felt so lucky to catch this moment of relative stillness to tell this story, as the rest of the year is a hectic schedule of travel and competing.

@hunterhess10 and @sveairving are really two people worth looking up to. Their talent, dedication and perseverance are the core reason I wanted to make this series. Could not be more excited for them as this season has been an exceptional showcase of their hard work.

Thank you to @max_smillie @lindsay_1992 and @nik.ihre for seeing and supporting our vision. Thanks to folks at the US Ski Team for being so accommodating to our production. Shoutout to Jared for constantly leveling up the cinematography and grinding through this with me. Very proud to present this piece I directed for Save On Foods.

The focus on people who serve our communities and grow our food struck a chord with me. Food is one of our core connections to the land and people around us. It’s a love language in and of itself, and on this project we aimed to connect those dots in one clear narrative.
