🗺️ Want my FREE Edinburgh map guide to help plan your trip to Scotland, with 250+ pins of all the essential attractions, photo ops, and top restaurants, cafes, & bars, plus some hotel recommendations of where to stay?

👉 Just follow @morgan.wanders and comment “GUIDE” on this post, and I’ll send it to you! (make sure you have the setting “allow message requests from everyone” turned on for it to work!)

It took me a long time to learn that actually properly researching a destination ahead of time and plotting out a basic itinerary (doesn’t have to be TOO in depth, but at least a basic checklist of stops you want to see and a general timeframe you plan to spend in different areas) can have SUCH an impact on the quality of your trip!!

The first time I visited Edinburgh I went sort of on a whim with a friend, and when we arrived in August we didn’t realize that we were there in the middle of @edfringe ! Had we known in advance we could possibly have booked tickets and seen some shows. Luckily for us, the @edinburghtattoo still had tickets for their show that night, and it was such an incredible event to experience in person! We also missed out on seeing a bunch of the most notable landmarks in the city because I did 0 preparation or research ahead of time of what would be worthwhile to see.

I am a reformed type B traveler who is teaching myself how to be more type A, and all of my travel planning content is me taking you along for the ride in that process! (Also, I discovered I just really love making pinned maps?? Why is it so fun? Haha!)

If you have any other tips for Edinburgh that you wish you’d known before you went that you think could benefit other travelers, I’d love to hear about them in the comments!! Let’s all help each other have the best trips possible! taken in Edinburgh, Scotland by @morgan.wanders

🧳 Have you tried the sudoku packing method yet?

As a self-proclaimed overpacker, it's easy for me to stuff my suitcase to the brim with as many clothing options as possible and stress out about packing for a trip.

What I really like about the Sudoku method is the structure it gives and the focus on choosing baseline pieces that work together. Being able to mix and match and pair your top and bottom layers makes such a big difference in outfit versatility.

This method works best for smaller trips, or trips where you know you have access to laundry, or just trips where you know you won't be sweating very much and will be able to rewear your shirts. Otherwise if you use this method for the height of summer in Europe, you'll probably be sweating through your shirts in a couple of hours.

If that's the case then I would take the heart of the Sudoku packing method and add a few more tops while keeping your bottoms and layers to a set number. What this method really comes down to is just setting yourself up with a baseline structure for planning your outfits so that you know that they work together.

With these nine pieces I was also able to fit three dresses, as well as some pajamas and all of my socks and undergarments, into my small @eaglecreek carry-on suitcase!

This packing method has been making the rounds on Instagram but I first learned about it from @jeanwang. Go follow her for some great style advice!

📌 Save this post if you’re planning a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland in 2026!

🚶‍♀️ One of the BEST things about Edinburgh is how walkable it is. You genuinely don’t need a car to see the highlights, and walking is honestly the best way to experience the city’s layers of history, views, and hidden corners.

👣 It all starts on the Royal Mile. This main road dates back to Medieval times and is still the heart of the city today. From here you can branch off to some of the most iconic spots, including The Real Mary King’s Close, Victoria Street, Grassmarket, and the Vennel Steps. These areas are not only packed with history, but they’re also some of the best places for cozy pubs and castle views.

🌿 To see a totally different side of the city, walk over to New Town, then continue on to Dean Village and Stockbridge. It feels quieter, greener, and more residential, and has tons of good restaurants and shopping.

🪦 Make sure Greyfriars Kirkyard is on your walking route too to see the statue of Greyfriars Bobby, the dog who is said to have stayed by his deceased master’s grave every day after his passing.

👇 Pin locations for all these points of interest are all in my free map guide!

💬 Are you more excited to explore Old Town or New Town first? Let me know in the comments!!

One day with the new iPhone 18 Pro Max and I’m obsessed 😍💕💖

The zoom quality on this phone is INSANE!! I’m coming from an iPhone 14 Pro and the 4 year difference in improvement is so mind-blowing. I’m going to have so much fun zooming in on everything far away 🥰

Are you planning on upgrading to the iPhone 18 pro max? Have you already? What do you think of it?? (Also what do you think of the burgundy colour? I’m a big fan of that too!)

💌 Send this to the person you want to visit Edinburgh with!

🏰 Edinburgh Castle is THE quintessential Edinburgh experience that needs to be on your itinerary! It’s impossible to miss seeing the castle if you’re visiting the city, as it stands tall on the top of Castle Rock, the central hill jutting above Edinburgh’s city skyline in every direction.

Castle Rock is actually an ancient extinct volcanic plug, and it’s served as the site of a highly defensible fortress for centuries, eventually becoming the home of Edinburgh Castle that we know it as today. The Royal Mile, Edinburgh’s most iconic street, leads up the slope of Castle Rock, starting at Holyrood Palace at the bottom, and ending at the entrance to Edinburgh Castle at the top.

🎟 Make sure you book your tickets to the castle in advance! They are on an entrance time-slot basis and are very popular, especially in summer. You COULD risk it and try and get tickets at the gate, but why take that risk if you know you want to go?

📌 Save this for planning your Scotland trip!

😲 Would you wake up at 3 am for this view??

🌄 This is probably one of the most famous sunrise spots in the world... and for good reason! But it’s definitely not the easiest to get to.

This is Moraine Lake in Banff National Park, Canada, and it’s a famous photo viewpoint that draws millions of visitors annually. In the early morning, the rising sun peeking out over the mountaintops across from the Valley of the Ten Peaks casts a beautiful pinky-coral light known as alpenglow on the mountains above Moraine Lake.

🚐 However, the road leading up to Moraine Lake has been closed to individual cars for several years now in order to prevent full parking lots and overcrowding, so the only way to get there (without a long, exhausting hike) is via a shuttle bus.

🗺 For more info on the types of shuttles available and how to book them, plus my free Banff map where I’ve pinned all the must-see sights, comment “GUIDE” & I’ll send it to you!

Just an ordinary day in Banff… 🫣

Have you ever seen a herd of elk blocking the road??

🦌 Elk are a common sight around Banff! If you encounter any, it’s important to stay in your car and never feed any wildlife! It’s also a good idea to keep your eyes far ahead on the road while driving, as it’s not uncommon for elk to wander onto the road.

🗺️ If you want my FREE Banff map guide where I’ve pinned all my favourite points of interest and restaurants, follow @morgan.wanders & comment “GUIDE” on this post and I’ll send it to you!
