World Triathlon World Champs Pontevedra 2026.
Last week the triathlon world gathered in the beautiful city of Pontevedra. 3500 athletes from 62 countries lined up to race over several distances and formats and in categories ranging from juniors and U23 to the oldest age groups and culminated in the amazing battles amongst the elite women and men.
I had the privilege to join the event as a team leader for the Swedish Age Group team and I’am super grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in this great community and atmosphere. Cheering on athletes of all ages and level, helping out with flat tires, shouting splits, coaching taking pictures and more.
Watching all these races and athletes was truly inspiring. Both the speed of young guns and the perseverance of the more senior athletes, and how the the community gather to support och cheer each other on. Heartwarming, and a hallmark of our sport. Already looking forward to Hamburg 2027

🇸🇪 VM-finalerna i Pontevedra, VILKEN HELG! 🇸🇪

Tror att ”I’m to old for this 💩”.

Frustrerande.

“There was no point in looking back! f*ck no, not today, thank you kindly”

An Ironman finish is never given. It must always be earned. Through training and through suffering on race day.
Ironman Austria on Sunday was my first race in two years, and I knew it was going to be rough. I had no illusions of a fast race. I had not done the training required, due to what feels like a hundred reasons. In addition I usually don’t perform well early in the season. Nevertheless I was not expecting to perform this poorly, particularly on the marathon. Holy crap that hard! Every step felt like a sledgehammer to the quads.

I didn’t feel great from the warm up, no power. Lost the pack in the swim, resulting in one of my worst, good things the venue is absolutely stunning. Bike felt decent, except for the last big climb. Cramps were near and the fear of walking it was imminent. So I had to fail it back a bit on the in towards transition. From the first step I knew. This was going to hurt, no personal best I scope, just a death march to the finish line 42,2 k up ahead.

This was just a training race. If there is such a thing? So I had made my peace with it being slow and hard, but also made a commitment to finish it. I love this race, I won’t do many if any more in the PRO-category, so I was going to make it to that red carpet and the Ironman arch in this magnificent beast of a race at all cost. Proud that I gutted it out, many didn’t.

Thanks to family, friends, volunteers und so weiter. Without you i wouldn’t have made it 🙏 by @morganb
