I’ve had this Bookstagram a while, so I thought a reintroduction with a new picture would be fun.

I’m Morgan. I’m a 40 year old mom of three daughters, Sofia (15), Olivia (12) and Victoria (10). We live in PG, and I was born and raised here and will never leave 😁

My first loved series was The Babysitters Club when I was about 8 or 9. Next would be the American Girl books which I devoured daily and would beg my mom and dad for more at the Scholastic Book Fairs.

I’m super into mysteries and thrillers, cozy ones too, but also love my romance and fantasy. Some of my favorite books as a teen was anything by Joan Lowery Nixon.

Recently :

Fantasy 🧚🏽‍♀️: Children of Blood and Bone, Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, The Stardust Thief, Legendborn/Bloodmarked, The Great Balance, Five Broken Blades, House of Marionne/Shadows of Perl, This Poison Heart, The Final Strife/The Battle Drum, and Our Vicious Oaths.

Thriller 🕵🏽‍♀️: The Sundown Motel, Dark Matter, The Housemaid, Lock Every Door, One Shot Harry, Mayor of Maxwell Street, Hidden Pictures, Hide/Fall/Echo/Edge and All the Sinners Bleed.

Romance 💝: Love Radio, Neighbor Favor/Partner Plot/The Love Lyric, The Boyfriend Project/The Dating Playbook/The Hookup Plan, Pardon My Frenchie, A Legend in the Baking, What a Match, The Davenports, and Before I Let Go.

The girls have read dozens of books, so I’ll be posting their favorites as well. For context, Sofia is in 10th grade, Olivia in 8th, and Victoria in 5th.

I struggled with the finale of the House of Marionne series. But I enjoyed the series as a whole.

The Whisper Man is creepy and disturbing, if that’s why you enjoy in thrillers, go for it!

The Divorce was okay, it look me a long time to finish just because I wasn’t invested.

Restore Me is the definition of a slow burn. It was a great build up and I liked both characters a lot.

I struggled this month with my selections. Can’t Get Enough by Kennedy Ryan saved my month from it being completely unsuccessful.

I didn’t care for The Last Time I Lied or All Her Little Secrets. As many thrillers I’ve read, these weren’t well executed or enjoyable. I just wanted them to be over. Unlikable characters and too long of a reveal with noting in between. I didn’t even care overall was revealed.

Can’t Get Enough was good, I liked the representation of dementia, so many people are dealing with being caregivers for family that has dementia, I liked them having a voice. And Hendrix was likeable, not too much growth was needed, but being kind to herself and having it all was worth a try. Maverick was also a good character, he knew what they both wanted and was determined to make it happen.

Missed Connection was cute, and silly. I love those kinds of romances, but there were admittedly several pages I just breezed through. Sometimes the 3 pages of internal dialogue were a bit much.

Sofia has asked for romances for years, and I was thrilled to see the YA Black romance genre expanding the way it has. Cute, wholesome stories that show healthy love. She has grown from her first Black YA romance, Love Radio. It’s easily her favorite, in part because of Prince and his maturity.

Zyla and Kai was another favorite she ended up liking, it was cutesy which she loves more than anything in romance. Under the Neon Lights was also cute and she liked the songs listed throughout the book. In I Wanna Be Where You Are, it was a slow burn but it was rewarding in the end, and she couldn’t put it down.

With two beach trips this past month, I was able to get a ton of reading done.

Score was the clear standout, the way Kennedy carefully and mindfully crafts a story like this is so admirable. You can tell she did research, and was determined to tell the story as accurately as possible.

Summer in the Bluffs and Forever Kind of Love were both good in their own ways. Summer in the Bluffs was enjoyable because imagining this Black couple being so wealthy and successful was just cool to read about. Forever Kind of Love is a short second chance romance, with a lot of growth for the characters and a lot of heart.

Drifting into You and The Ashborn Bride both were okay. I felt like Drifting Into You was cute but felt severely rushed. There wasn’t much of a back story or build up. The Ashborn Bride also felt like something was missing. More backstory, history, the whys weren’t answered.

This was definitely my summer romance binge.

The Summer Girlfriend was my favorite of the month for sure. Kristina Forest has a gift for slow burn, pining, and cute love. It made me want to be on a boardwalk visiting a beach. I loved everything about it, the realness of Noelle trying to get her life together with financial obstacles in the way, and her being a bookseller. Jeremiah being into her instantly is always a yes for me.

Curvy Girl Summer was okay, I wasn’t really into the story and didn’t like extreme mean comments about her weight.

The Art of Loving you was also okay. My expectations were high after Only for the Week. The grief portion was too big for me, I kept waiting for the romance but I’d rather romance happen sooner.

Roaming Holiday was my first book by Marina Hill. I liked the lost princess aspect of it. It was adventurous in some parts, and I enjoyed that. I think the language parts confused me, but it didn’t make it impossible to get through. Wesley was okay, I wasn’t swooning.

Had a blast @imaginariumbookfestival. Organized, fast lines, every author was fun to interact with. I even appreciated the little notes on some author tables describing the interaction they’d prefer. Totally going next year. Loved meeting Britney S Lewis, Analeigh Sbrana, and Jolee, the mastermind behind Satisfiction Box.
