Our next big family adventure begins! 🥹 For some time now we've been praying into a dream God put on our hearts and waiting on His timing. In typical God fashion, it all came to fruition SUDDENLY. He connected the dots that brought us to a unicorn property in our hometown (it's only 3 minutes and 40 seconds away from where we currently live), where we will build a legacy homestead for our family. We've been craving slower and simpler, a life where we work with our hands and dwell in God's creation, bringing us closer to each other and ultimately closer to Him. We pray this property be one where people can come and feel His presence. And of course, give us all the cows and chickens! 🐄🐓 And ducks... 🦆 and maybe some horses... 🐴

We're very excited to work with @vineyardcustomhomes and to share our journey with you all! The best is yet to come. ❤️

Judging by our perfect instagrams, we forget the past and that everyone has a story. I struggled with drugs and alcohol for 10+ years and it ended with me homeless and near-death in the streets of Los Angeles. I stumbled into an AA meeting at 26, and because of God's goodness and grace, I stayed. It was in that season that I recommitted my life to Jesus, met the love of my life, got married, had babies, and so the story goes...

I say that I pinch myself daily, and I mean it. I never take a moment of this sweet life for granted. It's a life I never thought was meant for me, but God intended it all, and He used every part of my messy story for GOOD- because that is Who He is, and that is what He does.

If you told me I'd one day be living a sober life in the suburbs, homeschooling my kids and living crunchy-ish, I would have laughed and rejected the idea. This is why in recovery we say, "one day at a time." If we saw the whole journey, we wouldn't be able to understand, but God knows, and God sees, and it's by surrendering to Him- one day at a time- that I get to appreciate the beautiful season I'm in today, dishes and all. 🤍

Screens... the ongoing battle, amirite? 😅 Recently, we noticed our kids getting a little squirrelly. Their attitudes and behavior weren’t great and we knew something needed to change. We used to allow a little screen time each day, but someone suggested saving it for the weekends instead. At first, that sounded daunting. Mostly because I thought I would have to be their full-time entertainment. 🥴 But that’s where I was wrong! My older two are 8 and 9, and fully capable of entertaining themselves. Not to say I won't join in on the fun... I mean, who do you think made the lemonade?! 😜

The first day or two was an adjustment. Lots of “I’m bored” and complaining 🙄 but then something shifted. They started finding things to do... ways to create, imagine, help, and play. Once they got going, there was no stopping them! And the best part? We noticed a significant improvement in their attitudes and behavior. 👏🏼

I share this with ZERO judgment. I think it’s important to remember that every season looks different! We revisit our rhythms every couple of months to see what needs adjusting. For now, this new routine has been such a gift to our family, and maybe a little less screen time is something God is putting on your heart for your family, too. 🫶🏼

Here are a few simple things that help our homeschool days run a little smoother:

1. I review tomorrow's work so I’m not learning the material at the same time as my kiddos. 😅
2. I set out the books and supplies ahead of time (because finding a pencil shouldn’t be our first lesson).
3. I pray over the kids and our day together... and for my patience. Especially my patience. 🙏🏼🫠
