Birthday or whatever

First photo is when it started.. May 15 2025 at Chalk

Second and third is me a year later at that same club but this time behind the decks controlling the crowd with my hands.

In a year we went from playing in the bedroom to a kitchen to the pres and afters to an echoey empty second room paid with drink vouchers…(don’t need to mention the club) to a packed student bar where people my age got to listen to my fresh twist of the more experienced resident DJs in town and I got recognised for it. To empty bars having playing to the bar staff or the odd divorcee asking for Britney Spears and asking if I was born yesterday for not knowing her tour setlist from 2001.

Those were the longest sets of my life. 4 hours feel like 4 minutes when the room is matching your energy the lights are on beat and the transitions are seamless. But 4 hours feel like 4 months when it’s just you, your bottle of water and your laptop playing the same old cheesy shit.

The slow and dead sets test your patience and are the starting ground of bigger and bigger stages. Not every set is going to feel like creamfields. Some felt like watching paint dry and some felt like a Coachella performance but I wouldn’t trade those experiences for the world. I went from playing to condiments on the kitchen table to a residency at a notable live music venue. It’s only an upward trip from here

Still the same guy just a slightly bigger ego, cakes and candles x by @morganiodj
