Who Gets to Tell the Story? 🎭

What happens when we look again at the stories we think we know - and listen to the women whose voices have been overlooked?

We're absolutely delighted to be featuring acclaimed playwright Morgan Lloyd Malcolm in the inaugural issue of Exits & Entrances! ❤️

From Emilia to Dracula and The Turn of the Screw, Morgan talks to our Founder & Editorial Director Emma King-Farlow @ekingfarlow about putting women at the centre of familiar stories, the collaborative magic of theatre-making, and becoming bolder about what she wants to say.

Read the full interview when Exits & Entrances launches TODAY at 5pm (UK time)!

“And perhaps they will wonder if there was anything in this story of mine and won’t want to believe it because then they would actually have to do something about it.”

The Turn Of The Screw only has one week left in London @arcolatheatre and there are only a handful of tickets left. Then it heads off on a tour all over the country so check out @blackeyedtheatre for dates and venues.

It’s a classic ghost story. But it’s also about women not being believed. About the endless repeating of the same stories without any change. And those houses and structures where secrets live and dangers wait…

"Spooky season is just upon us... Why not see something that's going to probably terrify you?" 👻

Safe to say we've scared the socks off our audiences for The Turn of the Screw! With less than two weeks to go until the ghosts finish haunting Arcola and set off on a UK-wide tour, there's just enough time left for you to experience this "accomplished... and acutely relevant" show ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (The Stage).

📆 Until 10 October

“That anger that you feel is yours and you can use it…”

I would like to see way more men speaking out and doing something about what we are seeing in the news. All I’m seeing is women having to remind the world what we have all known forever. What happened in Cornell is not new. It is all part of the system that brutally controls all of us, men included.
What are we going to do about it? What are men going to do about it?
When we put Emilia on 8 years ago in the wake of #MeToo we felt a roar of release from the women in our audience. We felt a hope that we were starting to head towards real change. But we were also told we were ‘too angry’ but I don’t think we were angry enough. Our anger is still needed. And our joy.
Otherwise we are going to have to burn the whole f****** house down.

"Spooky season has well and truly commenced" 🕯️👻

The reviews are in for The Turn of the Screw! This "deftly gothic" adaptation of Henry James's psychological masterwork has audiences on the edge of their seats. With psychological terror and nail-biting horror in equal measure, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm's world premiere will leave you haunted long after you've left the theatre.

To quote The Spy in the Stalls, "go and see it for yourself... feel the fear and do it anyway."
