Even after a year, the feeling I had on closing night of Simple Joys is still so palpable. It was a feeling of sheer pride, belonging, and, above all, joy. What I had longed for my entire time at Northwestern was finally taking shape through this production, and it was only the beginning. To the incredibly talented cast and crew, (and to everybody who i reached out to for help/advice at lowkey ridiculous hours of the day/night) thank you for being patient with me as I stretched out of my comfort zone, and for giving 100% of your talents every single day. And, truly to this entire community, and every single audience member/supporter of this show, thank you. We couldn’t have done this without you. As I move forward in my artistic journey, I carry with me the power, pride, and peace that I found in this community. When things are looking grim, just remember that you can always go back and get your joy.To my best friend, Constance, truly the best collaborator and partner in crime i could’ve asked for. Thank you for your gift(s). I needed it, we needed it, our campus needed it. This was our first, but definitely not last project together.
