“제가 본 예술가들은 다 너무 힘들고 바쁘고, 대놓고 막 ‘나는 예술가’ 이런 사람은 없던 것 같아요. 저도 영화를 만들고 예술을 하는 사람이긴 하지만. 음식점 서빙을 하고 있을 때의 저는 예술가가 아니잖아요. 알바생이지. 제아이덴티티가 그 사람들한테는 을이고 가난한 청년이고 그렇잖아요. 근데 알바를 마치고 조그만 상영회에 가면 연출가, 감독이 되는거예요. 그때만 예술가가 되는거죠. . … 요즘 신인 감독들이나 입봉하지 못한 감독들은 그 경계에서 되게 허덕이고 있는 것 같아요.”

저와 근처 모두, 이상과 현실을 저울질하는 삶 속에서 매번 하는 불확실성과 생존에 대한 이야기를 풀어봤습니다. 수많은 질문들이 떠오르는 나날들을 살아가지만 정답은 없기에 너무 많은 답들에 쌓여 살아가지 않았음 합니다.

“The artists I’ve seen are all struggling and busy, and I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who bluntly says, ‘I am an artist.’ I make films and create art too, but when I’m serving tables at a restaurant, I’m not an artist—I’m just a worker. To others, my identity is that of someone at the bottom, a poor young person. But when I finish my shift and go to a small screening, I suddenly become a director, a filmmaker. In that moment, I’m an artist. … Many new or yet-to-debut directors seem to be struggling in that very in-between space.”

Both myself and those around me live constantly weighing between ideals and reality, often talking about uncertainty and survival. I live with countless questions arising day after day, but since there are no real answers, I hope not to be buried under too many of them. by @morika_____

바로 아래에 보석이 있었는데도 고단했던 광부는
떠났다는 이야기를 알고 있니?
생존하기를 원한 광부는 해피엔딩을 맞이한 걸까
그가 팠던 저 깊은 구덩이는 그의 자랑거리가 됐을까
