What if Yahweh - aka Jehovah (aka Jesus!?), the God of the Old Testament - had TikTok? In this satirical take on biblical violence, Jehovah sends Moses a very different kind of "message" about war, destruction, and the killing of entire populations. But there's a serious question underneath the joke: If Jesus is Jehovah - the God of the Old Testament - what does that mean for the claim that Jesus is perfectly loving and merciful? The Old Testament contains passages in which God is portrayed as commanding or approving the destruction of entire groups, including children. Critics such as Godless Engineer argue that Christians and especially Latter-day Saints have to grapple with this tension rather than simply treating the Old Testament as unrelated to Jesus. If Jehovah really is the premortal Jesus, as LDS teaching traditionally holds, then the uncomfortable question becomes: Can the same being who commanded these acts honestly be described as the perfectly loving God revealed by Jesus in the New Testament? Watch, laugh, and then decide for yourself. https://www.patreon.com/MormonNewsRoundup https://www.facebook.com/dives.lazarus/ New reels every day on @mormon_news_roundup! Mormon Missionary Asks Me for a Wake-Up Call... Gets a VERY Different Answer 😂 What happens when a Mormon missionary calls the hotel front desk asking for a wake-up call? 😂 This missionary just wanted a little help waking up in the morning—but the hotel employee had a very different kind of wake-up call in mind. 📞 “Hello front desk, I would like a wake-up call.” And then comes the response: 🔥 “Facts don’t care about your burning in the bosom.” Sometimes the wake-up call you need isn't the one you were expecting. A short Mormon-themed comedy sketch poking fun at faith, testimony, and the idea of receiving spiritual confirmation through a “burning in the bosom.” Please consider making a donation by joining our Patreon https://www.patreon.com/MormonNewsRoundup Email: kolob@mormonnewsroundup.org, Website: https://mormonnewsroundup.org/, TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mormonnewsroundup, Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mormon_news_roundup/, Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dives.lazarus/, X: https://twitter.com/NewsMormon Remember remember, no unhallowed hand can stop this podcast from progressing! Did the LDS Church Rewrite Its Own History? Polygamy, Censorship & Hidden Records Welcome to the Mormon News Roundup. Tonight, we take a deep investigative look at the historical record of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and examine claims that early policies, doctrines, and historical records were altered, revised, censored, or withheld from the public. In this episode, we explore: • The reversal on polygamy — How teachings about plural marriage changed dramatically from the 19th century to the modern Church. • The Word of Wisdom — Historical accounts of Joseph Smith and other early leaders, along with allegations that references to alcohol and tobacco were later removed or rewritten in published histories. • Censorship and book burning — The controversy surrounding revisions to Lucy Mack Smith's biography, the destruction of critical literature, and allegations that missionaries participated in campaigns to remove unfavorable books from public libraries. • Restricted historical archives — The long-running controversy over access to diaries and other primary documents, including records concerning early LDS leaders and the Council of Fifty. The larger question is one of historical transparency: What happens to our understanding of the past when primary sources are edited, suppressed, restricted, or presented differently to later generations? Watch the full episode and decide for yourself. Thanks for watching another episode of the Mormon News Roundup. The Most Interesting Ex-Mormon in the World 😂 He's read the Book of Mormon. Way too many goddamn times. He's spent entire afternoons researching LDS history, questioned the prophets, examined the evidence, and discovered that the Spirit of Discernment works about as well as a broken clock. He doesn't drink coffee because he likes the taste. He drinks devil juice just to piss off the Mormon Jesus. He doesn't attend church on Sunday. He spends the Sabbath doing something far more dangerous: actually thinking. He has left the building. He has left the covenant path. He has left the Family Home Evening group chat. And yet somehow... his bishop still has his phone number. A completely serious, completely ridiculous tribute to every ex-Mormon who discovered that leaving the Church doesn't make life less interesting. It just gives you a lot more time to read the footnotes. I don't always talk about the Church. But when I do, I make sure the comments section loses its testimony. Stay ex-Mormon, my friends. 😂 Please consider making a donation by joining our Patreon https://www.patreon.com/MormonNewsRoundup Email: kolob@mormonnewsroundup.org Website: https://mormonnewsroundup.org/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mormonnewsroundup Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dives.lazarus/ X: https://twitter.com/NewsMormon Remember remember, no unhallowed hand can stop this podcast from progressing! My Loving Tribute to Mormon Prophet Dallas Hoax | ft. Sarah Silverman! 😂 A heartfelt (and completely satirical) musical tribute to the aging leadership of the Mormon church. Footage of the elderly prophet being helped along outside the temple is set to Sarah Silverman's famously blunt nursing-home serenade, "You're Gonna Die Soon." Can you blow your own nose? Can you tie your own shoe? Sometimes the jokes write themselves. Nothing's Gonna Stop Us From Building Temples 😂 | Starship Official Music Video! Nothing's gonna stop the temple-building machine! In this completely unhinged satirical look at Mormon temple expansion, missionaries in white shirts, black name tags, ties, and dark slacks become the unstoppable construction crew — bulldozing through neighborhoods, posting eviction notices, chasing families out of parks, and building enormous temples absolutely everywhere. Families flee with their belongings. Homes come crashing down. Temples keep popping up. And no matter what happens… Nothing's gonna stop us. A darkly absurd parody of relentless institutional expansion, told with manic energy and exaggerated cinematic visuals. The Dark History of Mormon Polygamy: Joseph Smith's 84 Wives & the Secrets of Plural Marriage Mormon polygamy is one of the most controversial and consequential chapters in early Latter-day Saint history. In this episode, we examine the origins, development, theology, and human consequences of plural marriage—from the earliest reported revelations in the 1830s to the massive posthumous sealing practices of the late 19th century. We explore: • The reported 1831 revelation and its connection to Native Americans • Ezra Booth’s 1831 account published in the *Ohio Star* • Joseph Smith’s plural marriages and the later emergence of Section 132 • The contradiction between Section 132 and the Book of Mormon’s condemnation of David and Solomon’s polygamy • Emma Smith’s resistance and the turmoil within early Mormon households • Brigham Young’s public comments about the misery surrounding plural marriage • Zina Huntington and the emotional detachment sometimes advocated within polygamous relationships • The Kimball family and the controversial loyalty-test account • Estimates that Joseph Smith was sealed or married to as many as 84 women • Posthumous sealings involving Joseph Smith, Wilford Woodruff, and Moses Franklin Farnsworth This episode examines the historical record and asks a difficult question: How did a religious movement sustain a system that appeared to conflict with some of its own foundational teachings while demanding extraordinary obedience from its followers? I Asked BYU–Idaho Students About the Mormon Racist Priesthood Ban… 😬 What happens when you ask students at Brigham Young University–Idaho about one of the most controversial chapters in LDS Church history? We headed to Rexburg, Idaho, to ask some uncomfortable questions about the Church's historical priesthood and temple restrictions against Black members, which remained in place until 1978. When did the ban end? Why did it exist? Who was responsible? Could prophets be wrong? And what exactly happened in 1978? The answers are… enlightening. 😂 This satirical street-interview video uses deadpan humor and absurdity to explore the strange ways difficult Mormon history can be explained, avoided, or rationalized. Topics covered: • The LDS priesthood and temple ban • Race and Mormon history • The 1978 revelation • Prophetic fallibility • How the Church explains its past • BYU–Idaho and Mormon culture • The infamous "God works in mysterious ways" explanation Please consider making a donation by joining our Patreon https://www.patreon.com/MormonNewsRoundup Email: kolob@mormonnewsroundup.org Website: https://mormonnewsroundup.org/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mormonnewsroundup Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dives.lazarus/ X: https://twitter.com/NewsMormon Remember remember, no unhallowed hand can stop this podcast from progressing! 🌽 Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree 🌳 | LDS Classic Gets a Little Out of Hand You know the classic LDS children's song "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree"… but what happens when the popcorn REALLY starts popping? What begins as a peaceful afternoon watching football quickly turns into an absolutely ridiculous suburban disaster. One man discovers that his apricot tree has somehow started producing popcorn—and it doesn't stop. 🌳 First, a few kernels… 🍿 Then, an explosion… 🏠 Then, the entire neighborhood… 🌽 And finally… there may be no escaping the popcorn. A cinematic, absurdist parody inspired by one of the most recognizable songs from LDS culture. When you look out the window and see popcorn popping on the apricot tree… RUN. 😂 Please consider making a donation by joining our Patreon https://www.patreon.com/MormonNewsRoundup Email: kolob@mormonnewsroundup.org Website: https://mormonnewsroundup.org/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mormonnewsroundup Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dives.lazarus/ X: https://twitter.com/NewsMormon Remember remember, no unhallowed hand can stop this podcast from progressing!
