🎭We are very pleased to have supported and accompanied the Chronofest theatre festival this year, which took place from May 28 to June 7 across various stages in Yerevan.
The festival opened with the performance “Die Scham” (“Shame”), a collaboration between Armenian and German artists.

With Chronofest, the city became a vibrant meeting point for contemporary theatre and performance - a place where artists from different contexts come together and open up new perspectives on stage and society.
Initiated by the theatre platform Chronotop, the festival brings together a wide range of artistic formats - from performative and documentary works to experimental and interactive productions.

Particularly exciting is the focus on exchange and shared experience: theatre is not only presented here, but collectively reimagined. Artists and audiences meet on equal footing, question social issues, and develop new forms of expression.
For us, it is especially inspiring to see how international collaboration and local voices come together in such formats, creating sustainable networks.

We are excited to announce our first-ever workshop curated by Ilya Moshchitsky!

This program is built on intensive collective practice: rehearsals, physical theatre, dramaturgy, and discussions. Together with a team of leading theatre practitioners and curators, participants will research, deconstruct, and co-create.

If you are a performing arts practitioner, interdisciplinary artist, writer, curator, or simply a curious mind who would like to challenge their daily routine and comfort zone, this workshop is for you.

The final performance will be included in the Chronofest 2026 program.

Եթե ցանկանում եք ավելին իմանալ և դիմել, հետևեք hosq-ի կենսագրության հղմանը taken in Yerevan, Armenia by @moschitsky

On Friday we showed our performance “Shame” in Munich. Just to remind you — it’s the result of a four-day theatre workshop between Germany and Armenia.

It’s hard to explain why a talk about shame between four German artists, four Armenian artists, and one genius director without national identity ended up being funny… But it did — and the result was basically a “genocide musical,” the kind of genre Moshchitsky is known for 😁 Laughing about things that are heavy, and sometimes scary.

There was so much freedom on stage that at some point the audience and the artists blended into one big laugh — the kind you can’t predict in a script and can’t stop…

For us, that freedom was the biggest outcome. Freedom from the weight of shame: shame about singing off-key, about masturbation, about depression, about childhood wounds… Just freedom from shame.

The story doesn’t end here: the whole German team is now coming to Yerevan. We’ll show the Armenian–German performance Shame in June 2026 at the next chronofest.

We thank everyone involved:

(English below) Vom 11. bis 14.

Was wird daraus entstehen?

From November 11th to 14th, 2025, four Armenian and four German actors will come together for a theatre workshop on the theme of “shame”.

What will come out of it?

How will they communicate without a translator?

Will they feel shame, or will it be us, the audience, who will be exposed?!

No one knows.

But given the group we’ve gathered, one thing is certain – it will be EXTREMELY interesting!

Come and see the result of cross-cultural exploration of “shame”, culminating in a multilingual theatre performance.

“What’s the Point of It All?”
A Public Discussion on the Role of Performing Arts Today

In the discussion “What’s the Point of It All?”, participants from various countries and cultural backgrounds will share how they currently understand the purpose and role of the performing arts. Does it serve a social mission? If so, what does that entail? How does the landscape of independent art shift depending on political, economic, and cultural contexts?

We’ll explore the tension between an artist’s inner drive and external demands — from audiences and institutions. We’ll talk about disappointment and hope, about responsibility, meaning, and the absence of it.

Discussion Participants:
Pooya Jafari, assistant director of the Body Pain theatre (Iran)
Anahit Ghazaryan, writer and dramaturge
Alexander Plotnikov, theatre director, writer
Ilya Moshchitsky – co-curator of Chronofest, theater director.
Gritt Uldall-Jessen, independent playwright and AD of Det Frie Felts Festival/ Selected Works — a festival dedicated to the independent field of performing arts in Denmark.

Moderator:
Andriesh Gandrabur - Programme and Vision Lead at hosq
