Monumental Estadio Azteca in Mexico City Designed by Mexican architects Pedro Ramirez Vázquez & Rafael Mijares, whom won the open call which included proposals from Felix Candela. Built of concrete, a master piece of Mexican Brutalism, on volcanic rock-ground in this part of el Pedegral in southern Mexico City. *Alvaro’s father -Alejandro Alcocer- an engineer was part of the team that helped build the stadium. El Coloso de Santa Úrsula as is known by DFeńos, started construction in 1962 & hosted its first game in 1966. It is the largest stadium in Latin America with a seating capacity of 85,000 futbol fans. Its the only stadium to host 3 World Cups, 1970 & 1986, Pelé & Maradona won respectively. Visitors are welcomed by “Sol Rojo” an 85ft tall sculpture by Alexander Calder outside the stadium. A site like no other, where art, futbol, architecture & community come together. Today millions around the world are watching the inauguration of the tournament, México vs South Africa. Oh sí, Mexicanos are super excited, we’re are loud, we’re cheerful & best hosts! John Silas’s work is innately imbued with these qualities. Composed of four original tracks (along with two additional mixes), the producer and instrumentalist’s debut EP, Water Sign, is largely joyously attuned to the dance. Yet these compositions diverge into moments of quieter introspection evocative of a kind of personal chronicle. For John, who’s seen more than his share of nomadic movement buoyed by periods of meditative creativity, it’s a reflection of lived experience: a journey that’s synthesized the influences of childhood Soul Train episodes, adolescent hip-hop sample spotting, tutelage on the MPC2000XL, collaboration with extended family within the Detroit dance music community, record shop clerkdom, and his current citizenship on the planet of nouveau Brooklyn. It’s also an approach entirely at home within the ethos of Love Injection Records - an outpost that’s long championed sounds that span the visceral expanse. Here’s two great events this week for all music & design heads: Thursday @headhi_ny 6-8pm Free Come enjoy the music of Japanese composer Susumu Yokota, responsible for over thirty albums between 1993 and 2012, exploring the worlds of acid techno, trance, ambient, downtempo and beyond. After a period of ill health, Yokota passed away in March 2015 at the age of 54, RIP. 
I’ll play the album Sakura, Yokota’s ambient masterpiece, originally released in 1999, featuring 12 wonderful subtly percussive textured melodies activating our beautiful vintage Klipsch La Scala sound system as part of our Head HiFi series. And visuals from Yokota’s graphic designs & photography included in the double album 🔵🔵🎶 We’re thrilled to be part of these intimate listening sessions spanning 6 continents organized by @lorecordings from London (UK) who remastered Yokota’s albums & has released these timeless works. Thank you After, I’ll play some 90s-2000s tracks too! . . A new exhibition Art Of Noise just opened at @cooperhewitt museum that y’all have to see! Posters, flyers, music players from different eras 📻 - This Saturday a panel discussion on speaker making by talented friends & audio innovators—Deborah Garcia, Mo Yasin, and Zoë Mowat & Dave Shaw of Waves and Frequencies 🔊 —Then, for Part 2, enjoy a dynamic conversation where writer and curator Vince Aletti speaks with DJ partners and publishers Barbie Bertisch and Paul Raffaele of Love Injection ❤️‍🔥 Together with moderator Matthew Higgs, they’ll unpack the visual language of album covers, posters and flyers. Discover how music’s graphic design, including typography, color, and production techniques  and discuss graphic design’s ability to help shape memories and history.
