Who’d have thought The Ghostbusters expanded the services they offer!?

Turns out the Los Angeles Ghostbusters do more than rid the world of ghouls and ghosts; They also help children in need!

“We are raising awareness and fundraising for the Starlight Children’s Foundation,” says Matt, one of the many talented actors from the community entertainment group.

By partnering with the Starlight Children’s Foundation, The LA Ghostbusters are able to help supply toys, games and themed hospital gowns to hospitals and pediatric wings all across the country!

Make sure you stop by the Museum of Mayhem this weekend on October 24th and 25th.

Tickets are available to purchase online and in-person for $10.

This weekend is your chance to experience The Museum of Mayhem in Uptown Whittier.

Every visitor is contributing to the preservation of the Whittier Museum and Whittier history.

And don’t worry they won’t lock you in a room when the maze is over — they will however have 35 vendors, a car show and trunk or treat for the kids.

And that my friends is the legend traditionally associated with the Jack-o-Lantern – a protective talisman used to ward off evil spirits and the spirit of Stingy Jack during the ancient holiday known as Samhain.

The story of a Faustian Bargain is the origin of one of the most iconic holiday symbols.

Although the story of Stingy Jack is merely an urban legend there is real history behind the Jack-o-lantern and Halloween. 🎃

Thanks for watching! We have more Haunted Historia coming very soon!

Turnbull Canyon is not famous simply because of its beautiful landscape. It’s also notorious because of its ugly history.

Though many of its urban legends are a figment of the collective’s imagination, they still manage to captivate the minds of many.

It is the real, documented history that adds another layer of mystery to Turnbull.

Have you had a weird encounter in Turnbull Canyon?

A NOTE FROM HISTORIA: Turnbull Canyon has inspired countless legends over the years. The supernatural stories shared in this episode are presented as local folklore—not historical fact. Documented events are identified separately throughout the story.

The name Hotuuknga is frequently associated with Turnbull Canyon in modern retellings of its legends. However, while researching this episode, I was unable to verify that Turnbull Canyon itself historically carried this name. Sources instead appear to locate Hotuuknga closer to the Santa Ana River. Awingna (also spelled Awigna), a documented Kizh village, was located much closer to the Puente Hills. This does not establish Awingna as a historical name for Turnbull Canyon, but it is an important distinction when discussing the Indigenous history of the area.

HISTORICAL SOURCES 📖
LA County Library — La Puente Valley Local History, “Native Americans of La Puente Valley” — identifies the Indigenous name of the La Puente Valley as “Awig-na” (“Abiding Place”).

The Nixon Plaza is more than just a dining hall. It’s a historic building that once housed the law office of one of Whittier’s most famous residents: President Richard M. Nixon.

Today you can enjoy some good drinks and food while also appreciating the building’s previous purpose.

Next time you’re having brunch in Whittier you can stop by here for your second round of drinks. 🥂

Pumpkins coming this fall 🎃

Not to sound too deep but ever since I started gardening again not only did I remember how much peace of mind it brings it also reminded me how important it is to tend to your own metaphorical “garden” instead of worrying about everyone else’s.

Or in the words of my mother: worry about your damn self!!!

The grass isn’t greener somewhere else.
It’s green where you water it.

Much love to everyone who’s been enjoying my videos!

I know I make it look easy but these videos take more work than you’d think. 🤩 (kidding)

But really, I love storytelling. Finally making video content for Historia, and the engagement I have received, has reaffirmed so much for me.

With that being said: there is more to come. 💙

What happened to the hot water springs that were once located in the land of the Kizh? 🛖

They became a hot commodity after the colonization of Southern California.

Dr. James Fulton was searching for oil when he came across hot water springs.

About 30 years after Manuel Nieto passed away and his 300,000 acres of land was divided into 6 smaller territories, what was once considered Rancho Santa Gertrudes became the face of the eras health and wellness craze.

Dr. Fulton arrived in 1871 as an agent for the San Gertrudes Land Company and eventually bought several subdivided parcels of the ranchos for himself. It was during his very first attempts to drill a standard artesian water well on his new property that he accidentally struck the mineral-rich hot sulfur springs, setting the stage for the famous sanitarium to open three years later.

And the rest is…history! ⛲️

Would you take a dip in the hot water springs if they were still present today? 🧖🏻‍♂️
