Feliz Día de los Muertos. Today is about remembering the people we have lost, and doing it with color. ☠️☠️☠️ The calavera is one of the great makeup designs, and it gets even better when you build it on a real skull appliance instead of painting straight onto the face. The shape does half the work for you. ☠️☠️☠️ Our Filigree Skull Forehead was made for exactly this. The open-mouthed skull and the looping filigree are sculpted in, so you get ornament and structure in one piece. It was designed for Day of the Dead, skeleton brides, Voodoo priestess characters and Carnival looks. ☠️☠️☠️ Every piece arrives unpainted, and that is the joy of it. Lay down a white base, then go as bold as you dare: bright floral rings around the eye sockets, decorative scrollwork across the brow, gold and turquoise and marigold. No two calaveras should ever be identical, and yours shouldn't be either. ☠️☠️☠️ Link in bio to see the range. Build something beautiful for someone you miss. #DiaDeLosMuertos #DayOfTheDead #Calavera #SFXMakeup by @mostlydeaddotcom
Happy Halloween, from all of us at Mostlydead. ☠️☠️☠️ Today is the day the whole year points at, and we want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who has followed along, everyone who ordered from us, and every single artist who entered one of our monthly challenges this year. You are the reason this little company has been doing this since 1999. ☠️☠️☠️ Every look in this post was made by someone in this community. That is the part we love most: you take what we build, and you turn it into something we never would have imagined. ☠️☠️☠️ Have a wonderful, spooky, ridiculous Halloween. Stay safe, get messy, and keep showing us what you make. See you in November. ☠️☠️☠️ #HappyHalloween #SFXMakeup #HalloweenMakeup #Mostlydead by @mostlydeaddotcom
Friendly reminder from your skin: stop ripping off your prosthetics! It’s so tempting to just peel everything off after a long day in SFX, but doing it wrong can actually ruin your skin. Forcing prosthetics off without properly dissolving the glue causes micro-tears, raw patches, and painful breakouts. Protect your face so you actually have a clean canvas for your next look. Happy Frankenstein Friday. Time to talk about the one monster every makeup artist eventually has to build. ☠️☠️☠️ Four pieces, four levels of commitment: Abbey Normal Monster Brow Appliance FrankenMonster Forehead Prosthetic The Creature Foam Latex Prosthetic Mask Mr. Stein Monster Foam Mask Appliance ☠️☠️☠️ The Abbey Normal is the classic: the heavy, ledged brow that turns any face into a reanimated one, and it pairs with a flat-top head or a neck bolt if you've got one. The FrankenMonster forehead is the lighter option, a single piece that gives you the shape with a faster application, and it takes a stubble shadow beautifully. The Creature takes it somewhere else entirely, a face loosely stitched together for something genuinely grotesque rather than storybook. Mr. Stein is the full commitment, a complete foam latex face that delivers the whole monster in one appliance. ☠️☠️☠️ All four arrive unpainted, so the green, the grey, the scars and the stitching are entirely up to you. That's the part we like best, because no two Frankensteins should ever look alike. Great for Halloween, and anything you use for Halloween can be entered into our contest. Final Friday of October, and the Wildcard challenge is heading into its last stretch! You have until November 4 to enter, so this is the perfect weekend to finish that Halloween or Día de los Muertos look. ☠️☠️☠️ Optional prompts are on the challenge page if you'd like a nudge, but anything original goes. ☠️☠️☠️ Keep it makeup-based (no store-bought pull-over masks) and include a brief artist story with your entry. Entries close November 4. Link in bio for the full details! #MostlydeadHalloween26 by @mostlydeaddotcom
Need a Halloween look in a hurry? A strong silhouette can come together with a cape or cloak, a wig, and one expressive accessory. The cape frames your character and does a lot of the storytelling for you. ☠️☠️☠️ Our last-minute picks: Black Crinkle Cape with Skull Trim, roses trim Long Red Velvet Cloak, 63 inches Hooded Cape, Black Ghostman Wig Maniac Wig Goth Girl Wig Buck Teeth Great for Halloween, and anything you use for Halloween can be entered into our contest. #HalloweenCostume #CostumeAccessories #Wigs #Capes by @mostlydeaddotcom
Stage 3 Zombie is the decayed end of the zombie spectrum, and it's the piece people mean when they say zombie makeup looks fake. ☠️☠️☠️ The sculpt gives you advanced decay: exposed teeth, a sunken nose bridge, and sections of bare bone worked into the cheek and brow. Because it's foam latex, all of that sits on your face and moves when you do. Snarl, and the brow follows. That's what sells a walker up close, and it's the reason this piece holds up to camera rather than just to a photo. ☠️☠️☠️ It comes unpainted, so you control the whole progression. A grey-green base with dark recesses reads as freshly turned, while washes of brown, black and dried blood read as months in the ground. Paint it to suit the story you're telling. Great for Halloween, and anything you use for Halloween can be entered into our contest. Link in bio to shop. #ZombieMakeup #HalloweenMakeup #SFXMakeup #FoamLatex by @mostlydeaddotcom
Pervis Pig turns any normal person into an instant porcine sleazebag. ☠️☠️☠️ It's a full face foam latex appliance, and it's the piece that keeps showing up in haunt photos because the snout gives you somewhere to go. Paint the snout wet, add a touch of pink around the nostrils, and the whole thing comes alive. Add a butcher's apron or farm overalls and you've got a character nobody forgets. ☠️☠️☠️ Haunt operators reach for it because a pig is instantly readable from across a dark room, no lighting tricks required. Painters reach for it because the planes on the cheeks and brow are generous enough to practice on. It arrives unpainted, so the blood, the dirt and the grime are all yours to decide. Great for Halloween, and anything you use for Halloween can be entered into our contest. Link in bio to shop. #PigMask #HauntedHouse #HalloweenMakeup #SFXMakeup by @mostlydeaddotcom
Three weeks in and the Wildcard challenge is heating up! It's an open theme, so bring whatever original creation you've been sitting on. ☠️☠️☠️ Need inspiration? There are optional prompts waiting on the challenge page, though they're completely optional. ☠️☠️☠️ Remember: entries must be makeup-based, no store-bought pull-over masks, and include a brief artist story with your submission. Entries close November 4. Link in bio for details! #MostlydeadHalloween26 by @mostlydeaddotcom
Skulls & Bones brings the real-deal texture of foam latex to your Halloween kit. Unlike a store-bought pull-over mask, these appliances adhere to the skin, move with your expressions or hands, and give you room to paint and customize the final result. That is the difference between wearing a mask and building a face. ☠️☠️☠️ Skulls & Bones: Skull Makeup Effects Appliance Mask Skull by FX Faces Zombie Skeleton Hand Prosthetics #147 Abbey Normal Monster Brow Appliance Great for Halloween, and anything you use for Halloween can be entered into our contest.
