the World Cup has basically taken over group chats everywhere right now, so naturally we ended up down a rabbit hole about how it’s been immortalized on stamps since it started in 1930.

Italy was the first to actually put it on a stamp, in 1934, when they hosted. that one decision kicked off a streak that’s never broken since, every World Cup gets its own official issue. some countries with no team in the tournament still put out full sheets just to mark it, Hungary once printed one showing the flags of every competing nation. nearly a hundred years in, it’s still one of the more consistent traditions in the sport. by @mother.tech
