AD’s New American Voices 2025! Each year, @archdigest pulls together a short list of firms they’re excited about, or in their words, “…a fresh crop of interior-design stars who are updating time-tested wisdom to blaze bold creative paths. Here are the seven firms to know now…” We’re incredibly proud to be listed alongside such exceptional designers. Thank you to @_h_mart_, @alevasseur1 and @archdigest. Story out today, on newsstands everywhere. Photos by @jason.b.james by @mother__studio
The guest bedroom and kids’s bedroom at Suppertime both feature custom designed and handmade quilts, a collaboration between Mother Studio and Kelly from @kyeandhardy. Kelly has a wonderful way with color, often hand dying fabrics to perfect the tone. We also designed and painted a custom stencil pattern in the kids‘ bedroom, referencing summer on the vineyard with floral patterns. Both of these handcrafted moments give a respectful nod to the rich history of New England craft. Our latest project is up on @archdigest today! We are so incredibly proud of this work. “Though Suppertime was the first official undertaking for Reinertson and Evans working together as Mother Studio, which is based in Asheville, North Carolina, the duo have quickly—thanks to this and a series of subsequent projects around the US—garnered attention for their handcrafted interiors. With backgrounds spanning landscape architecture, studio art, craft, and bespoke furniture design, the designers took a holistic approach here, overseeing everything from the design of quilts on all the beds to custom-painted tiles in the powder room and decorative stencils in the breakfast nook to built-in seating throughout.” Thank you to the entire @archdigest team, and to writer @davidfoxley for capturing this project so beautifully. How could we forget details? Here are some sweet moments from @uchirestaurants in Charlotte that bring us joy. Those custom gridded divider screens, perfectly imperfect quilted curtains, white oak millwork, custom upholstery, and hand crafted bricks. Each and every piece we wanted to still see a human's hand, and together they look seamless. by @mother__studio
This year feels extra special for our studio because it’s the first time our work has been published IN PRINT! It’s truly surreal and an absolute joy to see our work next to legends like @kenfulkinc @kenfulk and @sisterparishdesign1933, not to mention all of the special spaces that were designed by time and homeowners and friends and loved ones letting a home’s personality unfold over time. We love homes no matter which way they land - with the help of a studio like us, or with the help of care and history. Deepest thanks to @rizzolibooks and @jaciboston for including us in this incredible compendium of summer homes. by @mother__studio
About us :) by @mother__studio
The curtains for the Private Dining Area were hand-dyed, pieced, sewn, and quilted by Kelly of @kyeandhardy and her mom. (I promise we don’t only work with mothers to keep it on brand, but we love when it happens :) Kelly grew up outside Winston-Salem, NC, learning to quilt from her mother—a skill passed down through generations of her family—before studying fiber arts at East Carolina University. Her gift for combining hand-dyed, modern palettes with traditional quilting techniques makes her work feel so special. We’ve collaborated with Kelly on most of our custom quilts over the years, and her color sense and attention to detail are unmatched. The appliqué in the background was a labor of love from us! Laura and I (Karie) always try to craft at least one handmade piece for every project, whether it’s hand-painted tile, a custom stencil, or a stitched appliqué. For this one, we pulled fabric pieces from our sample library to create a simple, layered floral collage. We love it 💙 Interior Design - @mother__studio Photography - @william.jess.laird Process photos by us by @mother__studio
The custom woven fabric on the barstools at Uchi were handwoven by @_phlox_ and the cushions fabricated by master sewist @overlapsewingstudio.  We’ve been fortunate to collaborate with Grace—both in work and friendship—for years. A self-taught weaver from a young age, she went on to study weaving formally at @haywood.studios , assisted and taught at @penlandschool , and continues to deepen her practice through independent study and her studio practice.  Side note - Domestic mills and small yarn providers are closing all too regularly— does anyone want to start a non profit and buy these spaces so that communities still have access to them? 🙏🏼🕸️ Interior Design - @mother__studio Photography - @william.jess.laird Early process photos by us by @mother__studio

We based the bar header concept at Uchi on Monk’s Belt, a traditional Swedish design brought to Appalachia by early American settlers. The header is composed of waxed cotton stretched over a CNC-routed wooden grid, with each panel illuminated from behind. With North Carolina’s rich textile history in mind, we wanted weaving to take center stage — honoring the traditions and generations of makers who have shaped the craft culture of this region. The entry opens up into a 22 foot high dining area at the new Uchi in Charlotte, NC. We wanted the space to feel intimate and cozy but still grand. We kept much of the existing brick from the 1920s building and brought the height down with lighting, wood, a rich plum-brown, and custom planters and banquettes. This spring, we completed a 175-seat restaurant space for @uchirestaurants in the heart of Plaza Midwood in Charlotte, NC. Uchi’s focus on craft extends well beyond its impeccable food and service, and when the team approached us, they made it clear they wanted that commitment to be reflected in the physical space as well. We collaborated with several local craftspeople on this project — the first being Alex Irvine ( @tdunk_doesthedishes ), a ceramicist based here in Asheville. We worked with Alex for nearly two years to get this concept right, and ended up using a combination of plaster, nylons, corks, and a RAM-press to stamp out 350 singular tiles. We illuminated this from behind, with LED panels that are accessible through hidden panels in the Private Dining Area, which is on the opposite side of this wall. We wanted the entry of Uchi to feel like a seed planted firmly in the earth; the lighting breaking through to unfurl it into the main space.
