Bloomer / In Progress I was talking to a friend about the concept of “late bloomer” and as a ‘late’ bloomer myself, I’m starting to dislike the term. Much like trees that own their individuality and bloom when they feel ready, I prefer to think that I grew (and growing) when it was time, not late nor early Bloomer will be on view opening this Saturday 6/11 6-9pm at @launch_la#abstractacrylicpainting #artstudıo #biophilia by @motimakes

Moti @motimakes admits that open air painting was harder than she imagined. Outside the art studio, sunlight, shadows and colors shift, wind might alter the scene and rain might force you to pack up. So she had to work faster by prioritizing large gestural mark making over highly detailed work she normally does. This exercise helped her work more fearlessly and try new ideas without getting too focused on details. Koi watercolors, brush pens and Cray-Pas Specialist were her perfect partners for this experiment. by @motimakes

Moti @motimakes believes that painting in open air is essential to the artistic growth. Why? It trains your eyes to really see the scene, its compositions, hidden colors and how its elements dance to the wind or rain. Then you decide for yourself how you will interpret that onto your paper. It’s almost like you and the environment around you co-create a piece of art together. by @motimakes

THRILLED with how this turned out! This is 1 of 2 pieces I made about coral bleaching as a result of increasing ocean temperatures. It’s both a story of how we have messed up with ocean life and how we can reverse the damage 🌎💚💙Slowly getting a hold of glaze and underglaze layering and finding out cone 10 may not be my friend 😀 by @motimakes

Moti Tavassoli @motimakes, is an artist based in Los Angeles, California. Her work celebrates nature as an all-welcoming place of play, discovery and belonging. She has been using Koi watercolor and Cray-Pas Specialist for her open air paintings. Koi watercolor and brush pens give her rich colors, precision and convenience when working outdoors. But she also loves Cray-Pas Specialist for textural expressive fields of color. by @motimakes

Meet our first Gesso artist, Moti Tavassoli @motimakes! 🌱Moti is a Persian-American artist and designer based in Los Angeles. As an immigrant who often finds herself in the liminal space between cultures, places, and identities, nature remains unbiased, steady, and welcoming. This intimate relationship couples with environmental anxiety to tell the stories of nature through abstract paintings and sculpture. Her visual language combines fields of color and detailed linework to speak to the dynamic and lively relationships within a thriving ecosystem. As Robin Wall Kimmerer says, “All flourishing is mutual.”Moti will be exhibiting work at Gesso Salon: Recession Proof Industries.Saturday, June 27th7pm - 12am4654 W. Washington BLVD.🔗 RSVP link in bio#gessozine #laartscene #losangelesartscene #artshow #groupshow by @motimakes
