Bhagavad Gita Chapter 1, Verse 1

This verse serves as the opening line of the Bhagavad Gita, where King Dhritarashtra, the blind ruler of the Kuru dynasty, is asking his charioteer Sanjaya to describe the events that are unfolding on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Dhritarashtra's question reveals his concern and curiosity about the outcome of the impending war between his sons (the Kauravas) and the sons of Pandu (the Pandavas).

The use of the terms "dharma-kshetra" (the field of righteousness) and "kuru-kshetra" (the battlefield of the Kurus) highlights the significance of the location as a place where righteousness is to be upheld. This setting lays the foundation for the profound spiritual and philosophical teachings that follow in the Gita.
