So today I got to see nigh on 1,000 beautiful vintage motorbikes at @thenationalmotorcyclemuseum in Birmingham! An amazing collection of rare, surprising, stunningly beautiful or simply interesting racing bikes, sidecar outfits, road bikes, homemade bikes, prototypes and more - and of course hubby got to indulge his interest in Velocettes and classic Triumphs (which is why we stopped at the site of the former Triumph works in Meriden afterwards but those photos will have to wait for another post).#classicmotorcycle #nationalmotorcyclemuseum #velocette #triumphmotorbikes #nmmbirmingham by @motokirsten

walking in Yorkshire10 km of hiking in the beautiful scenery of Wharfedale in the North Yorkshire National Park - my calves are killing me but what stunning views! Since our arrival we've seen curlews, oystercatchers, pheasants, rabbits, red kites plus, of course, what must be thousands of sheep and cattle. We've seen streams and rivers, crossed the Wharfe countless times, climbed hills and stiles and watched the cascades of Linton Falls. We've admired quaint villages with their natural and limestone buildings including the former Wesleyan chapel turned holiday cottage we're staying at. We've discovered pretty flowers and tasted scrumptious pub food, smoked trout, and local beers. We've watched classic cars drive along the winding roads and got up and close with grazing cattle. Today is International Female Ride Day! So this female rode some 140 miles/225 km (with her husband, admittedly) to and through the Weser Mountains, past rapefields in bloom, across the river Weser by ferry, up to the top of Köterberg, and to a favourite haunt, the snack van on the Weser banks, hanging out on a lounger with a river view. I haven't been posting a lot apart from a few stories lately - sometimes life just takes over. Nothing to worry about, all's well, just other priorities. Not a lot of riding, either. Today, though, I decided not to drive to my Italian class - parking is a nightmare! - but to take the Innova. Perfect for whizzing through town, bypassing an unexpected closed road (pavement being the operative word) and just plonking it down behind the school in a corner of the crammed car park. On my way into town, I meant to have a look at the avenue of fruit trees that's such a beautiful sight at this time of year but took a wrong turning. DOORS OF BADSEaka Bad Salzdetfurth Went for a walk around the Old Town and #kurpark in Bad Salzdetfurth, salt producing town and spa not far from us, today.Note the funny triple reversed-S-shaped signs above some of the doors - a reference to the salt boilers formerly reducing the salt water from the salines by boiling it in flat pans over an open fire until the water had evaporated, leaving the salt behind. Wegen einer geplatzten Verabredung hatte ich heute so richtig Zeit, mit offenen Augen durch die Hamburger Innenstadt zu pilgern und mal den Blick nach oben zu richten. Da findet man tolle Fassaden- und Portalverzierungen und Letztere laden förmlich dazu ein, mal die dazugehörigen Kontor- oder Geschäftshäuser bzw. Passagen zu betreten. Was gibt es dort für wunderschöne Preziosen der Architektur zu sehen! Beim nächsten Hamburgbesuch muss ich mir noch mehr Zeit dafür nehmen. Ich liebe ja diese alten Backsteinbauten, an denen durch geschickte und kreative Anordnung der Ziegel so wunderbare Muster entstehen. Simpel, effektiv und einfach nur schön. Gestern und heute war ich aus gegebenem Anlass in Barmbek-Nord unterwegs und habe mal einige Beispiele festgehalten. Wie lange mag all das wohl noch sichtbar sein? Oder verhindert der Denkmalschutz zum Glück, dass diese Kleinode hinter energetisch sanierten, seelenlosen neuen Backsteinfassaden verschwinden, wie ich sie dort auch schon gesehen habe?#backstein #redbrick #architektur #barmbek #hamburgliebe by @motokirsten

When we were on holidays/vacation in Italy in September, I discovered this flatpack globe in a great stationary shop in Florence. I just had to have it! It came complete with a few dozen pins to mark all the countries, states or provinces I've visited. I finally got around to putting them in - interesting to see how they hardly find room in some regions of the world (Europe and North America), all in the northern hemisphere, and are totally absent, notably in Africa, Asia and South America. And then there are the lone three (oops, thanks, daughter dear, for pointing out the third - not in the pic yet, of course) Australian states I've been to in the southern hemisphere. 😉Last year alone saw me in seven European countries including my own and seven U.S. states, thanks to @lifewithjytte . 🌎😊#travel #aroundtheglobe #reisen by @motokirsten

first ride of the year 😊No, I'm not mad! It was a perfect spring day, with sunshine and temperatures around 10° - perfect for a ride! There were only patches of snow left in ditches or along shady banks, the roads were clear and mostly dry. No danger at all. So these are my #bestnine2025 on my Insta moto account.I didn't post too much this year so these images reflect far less than what I experienced and saw over the past 12 months. There isn't even a single image of my two trips to the USA, for instance! But then I think I only posted stories and those don't feature in the #topnine2025 , of course.All my three bikes are there, a couple of #windmills , a #lighthouse, a photo each from our holidays in Brittany (France) and Italy and all four seasons so that about covers my year. fifth Christmas market of the season - and the first time in our lives that we went to a Christmas market by bike!It was just a mini, medieval-themed farmyard Christmas fair in a village a pleasant ride away but it was fun!There were smithy and carpentry demonstrations, crafts, pipes and drum music, open fires and tasty food - I had langosch, a Hungarian-inspired fried bread with a sour cream, meat and herb topping which reminded me of the fry bread I enjoyed so much at the Navajo restaurant during my recent road trip through the US.
