What an adventure! This journey to encounter the Mucunguzi gorilla family, nestled deep within the heart of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The roads leading to this remote sanctuary were an adventure in themselves, a crazy network of dirt tracks and precarious ascents. Indeed, some sections of the path were so incredibly steep, so vertically inclined, that it seemed impossible for any vehicle to get there.

Once disembarked, we wasted no time and immediately began our trek into the dense forest. We were accompanied by our armed ranger and a knowledgeable local guide. For hours, we pushed onward, then, finally, the eagerly awaited message crackled through – a notification from the trackers confirming that they had successfully located the gorilla family. The journey became even more challenging as we ventured off established paths. Mosquitoes, snakes, and particularly small ants, which managed to bypass my gaiters and inflicted several bites, added to the difficulties.

Then came the pivotal moment!! we located the family and were able to spend an hour in their presence. It is an indescribable sensation when a silverback gorilla begins to approach you, and then, at a mere 50 centimeters, simply walks past. This experience evokes both fear and enchantment.

Started in San Francisco, drove north to Bodega Bay where the whales decided to show off. Some stop in Napa and Sonoma and a few days in the Bay area.

Then swapped the Pacific for lake Michigan. Cubs at Wrigley, a night out, deep fish so thick or needed a fork and a nap afterwards, a museum day for culture with a crazy tornado 🌪️ inside, and of course at night Batman himself.
