After over 18 months, we are finally finishing moving the last favorite bikes in into our old ranch house.. Heavy rain hit us this morning so it turned out to be the perfect time to air up the tires and move our chosen gems into more appropriate sections , and of course the Italian motos will claim the largest area . 2 dirt bikes that raced up Pikes Peak , one in the summer and mine in the winter will of course be shown as well. I am finally ready to start hanging our Moto artwork, however, over 150 pieces will now be for sale as this tiny 1934 ranch house can only take a few , as it is mostly single pane windows kept in order to preserve its former history . Huge thanks to Chava and Rich who have done the heavy lifting and helped make this extended move possible ! Robb #mototalbott #mototalbotthistory #haywire #savinghistory #mvagusta by @mototalbott

Robert and I met again at our favorite Baja Cantina for a vintage car gathering event , and as usual, we were the only ones on Moto‘s. Robert rode his beautiful Triumph 500 and I had my trusty Gilera 175 sport, which is actually a pretty quick small Italian single with 4-speeds , upside down GP shifting ,10:1 compression, and 9 bhp. I use clip on but also use nobbies for the occasional dirt and gravel that I ride on . This little Gilera has served me well now for 15 years and now shares our barn with its big brother , the MotGuzzi 860 TT . A few more random pics from our old 1934 home , ending with my display of Talbott wine bottles that help portray my 38 years in our family wine business . One of the most satisfying parts of finishing a space for our chosen bikes is hanging our favorite artwork and we did keep a bit after our final sale. Many years ago, Shinya Kimura rode his custom MV Augusta 750 S into our River Road winery for this classic shot, the winery is now gone, but the memories remain. Those of you that visited our museum will remember our big Curtis Wright radio motor built in 1939 to power the C – 47 airplane, which was basically a military DC -3 that was used heavily in World War II to drop paratroopers during D-Day. This is the backstory of why it was there . Our family spent three months traveling the world in 1964 and many of those flights were aboard the Douglas DC -3 “Taildragger.”. We flew into Kabul Afghanistan on Ariana Airlines and also into Kathmandu on Nepal Airlines in order to source fabric for our company . We ran into our pilots at the famous Yak and Yeti bar the night before we left and worried about our flight back to India for good reason . Thankfully we survived but I will never forget the sound of the tree tops hitting our alloy wings that morning , not a sound came from any of the passengers that morning , it was an unforgettable experience. Loose local dogs would run free on the air strips in those days , and I guess that summer cemented my love for this old iconic workhorse , still flying today . My neighbor and I took a recent ride into the Santa Cruz mountains to enjoy the unknown back roads, ending up at the Coastanoa tent cabins, which I highly recommend. The next day we returned to Haywire to finally hang and install the artwork and favorite”bits pieces “ that stayed with our family after the final museum sale. Lots of family history and great memories are all together again after the decades of experiencing them. Probably my greatest joy, though has been saving, restoring and repurposing The 1934 all Redwood California Ranch style home, which sadly had been hoarded in and completely taken over by rats and mold. In this present time of moderity it should have been torn down, but that option was never considered. Instead I grabbed the reins …,rebuilt and saved it , thus giving this old treasure the chance to continue to evolve and keep on giving back to the folks that love history !! Our favorite Moto‘s have now been relocated to our old 1934 Redwood Ranch House called “ Flanders”, but of course they wouldn’t all fit in the small former home. Luckily, I could make room in our workshop barn for the overflow bikes which range from my Moto Guzy, our Gilera 175 Sport , to various other riders and non riders such as the 1934 Koehler Escoffier, the BMW Zebra GS and our beloved 1965 “ Buried Beemer” . The last pic shows continuing work on our old 60s K-10 “ father-son truck , the rebuild goes on , new tires and brakes are next and with any luck we will hit the 2 lane western roads before thr snow flies again .. ..Robb #oldwest4x4trip #vintagebikes #fathersontime #minimuseum by @mototalbott

The unexpected sun came out today and was a real treat for us all. The Guzzi is clean and put away after my Oregon Cascades trip and now it was time to clean and de rust three of my favorite bicycles. each of them has an amazing story and history starting with the worn out Phoenix Dutch bike copy that I purchased in Bali decades ago and ended up riding all over that beautiful island for about 10 days. When my riding was finished I had it shipped home of course , as we were friends by then . The Ti Moots was built for me by the factory in Steamboat Springs , Colorado and one of the early full suspension mountain bikes that ended up seeing lots of single track and gravel roads back in the day. The beautiful dark green Salsa with S and S couplings was also built for me and ended up being put into a suitcase and flown over to France where I rode it over 500 miles with a family friend , that experience turned out to be one of my all time favorite rides . Coming to the end of our 1300 mile 6 Day Rd. trip, I had to stop and take this picture of my Guzy in front of Mount Shasta. Greg and I started in Carson City riding to tamales Bay, then up the coast and inland to the historic 1927 Benbow Inn , then returning to the Oregon coast and Bandon ., we then rode back into the mountains up to 5,000 feet and Diamond Lake, where a large log fire burned in the old lodge, a nice needed touch. Greg and I finished our road trip by visiting Crater Lake through the just plowed north entrance and a spectacular treasure that National Park is ! Coming home we circled Lassen on our way east to Susanville riding big sweepers on great pavement bordering cold rivers and all surrounded by thick conifer forests . Our coastal and mountain ride will not soon be forgotten , the end of my museum era now allows new beginnings and that door is now wide open ……Robb #oregonbackroads #newbigginings #motoguzzi #bmwgs #mototalbotthistory by @mototalbott

Once again for our three day closing sale, we had motorcycles coming in to visit, it had been almost 2 years so I loved to hear those great sounds again . Robert rode in on his 1969 BSA 441 Victor, the same bike he purchased new when he was only 18 years old and still rides weekly.Sunday he came in again on his Triumph 500 for a pic with Old Yeller our shop truck. Barry and Jason rode their Moto Guzzis in as well as 2 gentlemen riding a KTM and a . BMW GS . “ Hodaka John “ , my nickname for him , rode his great little Hodaka Ace 100 over the grade to visit , he restored it years ago after pulling it out of our barn find room . My biggest surprise though happened when a gentleman rode in on a 2012 BMW triple black GS 1200 , it took my eye , looking very familiar and for very good reason , it had been my bike back in the day , from track days to old western trips on black ice , I had loved that GS. My red Tail of the Dragon sticker was still on it but was talked into selling it for a Multistrada , which proved a big mistake , as this wonderful GS is the only bike that I have sold and unsuccessfully tried to buy back , the only one!! Many thanks for all the folks that came to our closing sale , it became a celebration of our era and the great run we had ! It is finally time for our last and final sale at Moto Talbott , it will feature over 140 pieces of artwork that once graced our most amazing collection of motorcycles . All of our motos have now been “ re- homed” so it’s now time to sell all of the memorabilia that once accompanied them. Those of you who know me well can expect much more than just art , there will be antiques , fine furniture, bike display stands and pedestals , my old fireproof race suit and others , hand tools and even our old bike/ landscape trailer. This will be a fun 3 day sale and a great way to celebrate the end of an era …. It will now be time for fresh oil in my Moto Guzzi and a good long trip back into the Old West that I love so much…. Why are my son Logan and I smiling,….well it is because we both finally found and agreed upon our Father- Son vehicle to rebuild and take on a long awaited trip all over our favorite western states. The search. took over 2 years in the usual places , but Facebook Market place finally came through with this 1968 Chevy K-10 short bed , 4x4 , It came from a farm in Fresno however after my own life experiences with grape farming I have never advised buying a truck or a tractor from a farmer , because the stuff is generally all “ used up” , but I guess rules are meant to be broken ! Logan and I are now paying the price, never having seen so much baling wire , Duc tape , wrong parts and zip ties holding everything together . So we are now having to go in deep in order to make our new K-10 roadworthy for the coming trip . I learned to love General Motors trucks very early , driving a 1950 3/4 ton for 6 years , and then my 1972 GMC 1 ton for 24 years , it helped build my first cabin , the family ranch and finally our winery and vineyard. We both loved that truck and can’t wait to hit the road again on our coming Father-Son Wester trip .. Robb #mountainpatina #chevyk10 #haywire #fathersontrip by @mototalbott

There was no need for warming up our tires this morning for our monthly ride, which is rarely now done on our coast because of the horrific traffic, so we headed inland . We rode the usual upper valley out to King City with a great lunch at our favorite place and then left for the Bitterwater road , not stopping at the Red Gate , continuing to the very rough Coalinga road , finally finishing on the Los Gatos road into to Coalinga oil derricks .A few warm hours with only 2 pickup trucks encountered, and they both gave us big waves ! Wonderful small and tight backcountry roads with 4 small water crossings and waist high green grass for the cows , horses , sheep , goats and even a proud Golden Eagle sitting on a fence post enjoying his lunch !! Double Wow!! We learned that Chevron Oil just took over the drilling leases in Coalinga so the derricks are now pumping like they have never before , the hotels are full again and the town is alive again , we actually had a great dinner , that was extremely rare before . I love my old rusty junkers so was thrilled to find the Cadillac Ranch , an old tractor , shade when we could find it , the white buffalo and finally the cool Arroyo Secs River still running under our favorite old Green Bridge Robb #mototalbotthistory #motoguzzi850 #bmwgsa #neverstopriding by @mototalbott

Our heavy rain and wind storms appear to be finished so it is now time to finish moving our favorite bikes down to Flanders in Carmel. Only a few are left to move as the rest have now been sold, but our “ keepers” will be quite eclectic, much loved and special, in other words, the way I have always rolled , ridden and collected. our Triumph Thruxton Cup Racer. the iconic Ducati 916 and of course my Ducati, final edition, super sport, which I used for years on track days at Laguna Seca , before I low sided on the double apex turn 2 . They will all sit by an early 1950s MV Augusta racer and of course the MV Augusta F4 Ayrton Senna edition. Eventually the wall art will follow after all of bikes are placed , and it be a good feeling to finally display our favorite bikes again .
