This month, Blackfish Gallery celebrates Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders Heritage (AANHPI) month by presenting the special exhibition Many Bridges. This exhibition features the work of Mashiko ceramic artists from Japan as well as local Portland and Blackfish member AANHPI artists.

The featured artist in this post is local artist Satoko Motouji:

Artist statement:

Abstract images are used to metaphorically express the significance of mutual communication with different ‘worlds.’ Honoring diversities and compassion toward foreign cultures can enrich our lives and lead to a peaceful coexistence. The paintings, Bridging Different Worlds, #4 and Serenity Revived, #3 represent these thoughts.

Satoko uses traditional Japanese sumi ink which she applies on western watercolor paper made from cotton.

I am happy to inform that My work will be included in the show at Blackfish Gallery called Many Bridges. There are ceramics and other form of artwork. Japanese ceramists will visit Portland and there will be some wonderful events at the Blackfish Gallery, Portland Japanese Garden, Mt. Hood Community college. I will be at the Gallery on May 17th and May 24th. My work will be a part of the show at the Blackfish Gallery from May 6 to Ma 30th. I will be at the gallery at May 17th and Ma6 24. There will be ceramics and other form of work. Please look at the calendar and see if there is any event you can come. by @motoujis
