10/10 recommend finding a mini-bestie who's idea of a good time includes juice boxes at the waterfall, smothering Leebs with kisses, singing along to the Grease soundtrack, tinkering, reading a good book (over and over), anything watermelon flavored, and a good comedy/rom com...and then taking her on vacation with ya 🥰 best way to enjoy the summer heat, splashing around and relaxing with this kiddo. We definitely don't consider ourselves farmers, and "gardening" feels like too gentle and whimsical for what we're doing here... I think the accurate term might be: jungle tamers.

Each year, each season, this land is a green explosion. In so many many ways, this abundance is absolutely welcome. But with invasive and wandering plants, we often have to really fight to keep nature in balance.

There are so many un-aesthetic garden projects we've worked on over the last months, trying to set ourselves up for an easier time in the future. Each one you pour hours of energy, blood, sweat and sometimes tears into, just to step back and realize you've accomplished like 1/1000 of what needs tending 😅

Here's a little highlight of some gardening lowlights 🙃
1. Trimming the dead Yucca leaves, literally one at a time with a scissors (anyone know of a better way? Feel like I've tried everything!)
2-3. Weeding and cleaning up the pond, for like the fifth time in a year. Some roots by the water trickle had grown so dense and strong over the rocks that I still had a hard time with the power saw 😮‍💨
4-6. Ivy over the well...how hard can it be?! Needed to call in back up on that one 👫
7-9. This bush was so spikey and over grown that the first time we pruned it we discovered a hidden olive tree. Since it's so full of long thorns and sends tubers all over, I decided to chop it down and try to dig out as many roots/baby plants as I could. It's still a labor in process, but at least all the thorny branches are gone and burned up 🔥
10-11. Used the very early spring to dig up a patch of fresh wild berry roots. They're literally everywhere and are quite painful with the thorns to trim (for us and for the paws 🐾🐾). taken in Serra Da Estrela - Portugal by @mountain.view.meadows

The bestest best girl in the whole world turns 8 today 🎉🥳🎊
Our lives would be 10000% less joyful without our Leebee. She's silly, she's sweet, and she's down to use just about anything as a pillow.

Love the way the full moon rises over the mountains 🌚

I'll never forget the first night we slept in our new home. It happened to be the summer solstice, and a full moon. We'd had a long busy day with the closing, transferring utilities, installing security, and cleaning out the absolute mess the previous owners gifted us.
We finally ran out of steam and made a makeshift bed on the floor with some questionable mattress pads and the clean sheets we had (thankfully) brought with us. We had just gotten comfy when all the sudden it was like a spotlight was shining through our curtain-less windows. We went out on the deck to investigate and found a giant Strawberry Moon coming up over the Serra da Estrelas, like a bright silver sunrise. It was quite the welcome gift 🎁

Forced myself to slowwwwww way down when tiling the first guest room. I learned from the rushed timeline I gave myself for the kitchen tiles that my body just isn't 20 anymore 🥲 and that when I'm stressed and under pressure, it's not fun. This time around I remembered that I actually enjoy the process and the results 🤗

Leebs did lots of inspections to make sure I wasn't going into overtime. And I decided to do a new pattern in the bedrooms 🧺

And to maintain my body/sanity (especially hands/wrists, thx carpal tunnel) I will be outsourcing the grouting!

So currently the room is not finished finished, and the tiles/color will look slightly different after the grout, but I went ahead and got her painted 🎨 the color is a neutral beige pinkish (not captured well in photos) and it really pulls the tiles and the rocks on the exterior all together. taken in Serra Da Estrela - Portugal by @mountain.view.meadows

Everyone's favorite kitty sister turns 13 today 🎉🙀
We weren't sure exactly how old she was, but at the vet recently we were able to look up her old charts and learned her birthday 🎈 We are all a little shocked to learn how old she actually is, because she's got the energy & health of a kitten. Hopefully this means she's got most of her 9 lives left to spend with us 🤞🏼
Happy birthday Heart! We're so glad that you stubbornly hiked your way through the forest and down the mountains like ten times to come home.
