Colorado is dry. There’s no getting around that.

We keep hearing the same thing lately: “There’s nowhere to fish right now.”

But that’s not really true…

There’s still plenty of good water out there that’s cold, healthy, and fishing well. It might just mean driving an extra hour or two, getting off the beaten path, exploring somewhere new, or putting a few more miles on your boots.

And honestly, that’s not a bad thing.

Part of fly fishing has always been the search. Finding new water. Exploring places you’ve never fished before. And sometimes finding a few really good fish waiting for you when you get there.

Be smart about where you fish. Carry a thermometer. Give stressed trout and warm water a break. But don’t hang up the rods just because your usual spot isn’t an option.

Go explore.

We’ve got cooler weather moving in, some rain in the forecast, and plenty of summer left to fish. 🎣

The trout will thank you. 🎣☀️

With water temperatures climbing, now is a great time to give trout a break—especially on the lower sections of the Big Thompson and the Poudre through the canyons.

Instead, shift your focus to some of Colorado’s incredible warmwater opportunities! Carp, bass, bluegill, and other warmwater species are active right now and provide an exciting challenge on the fly. Carp, in particular, are powerful, selective, and one of the most rewarding fish you can target this time of year.

Let’s do our part to protect our trout fisheries while enjoying everything Colorado has to offer.
