Growing up, Mathias and Erin’s family homes were always an open door. New friends, old friends, and family would spend the weekend together out on the lake, laughing, playing games, and enjoying a drink or two. They wanted their wedding weekend to recreate that same easy, welcoming energy. And it truly was three amazing days of exactly that. From the lakeside welcome party to the farewell brunch at the grooms family home. Here’s a little preview of day two, the wedding day🥂

Some wedding days have a different kind of ease to them. Shelby and Dylan’s Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe wedding was one of those days.

They chose not to have a wedding party, got ready at the Ritz, and kept the entire celebration on site. They also chose to have two wedding photographers and do a first look, which meant we could photograph almost everything before the ceremony without making the day feel like one long photo session.

By the time they were officially married, there wasn’t a huge list of photos waiting for us.

They got to go to cocktail hour.

That might sound like a small thing, but so many couples spend that entire hour taking family photos, wedding party photos, and portraits. Shelby and Dylan were able to actually be with the people who had traveled to celebrate them. They had a drink. They talked to their guests. They enjoyed the space they had spent months planning.

Later, I borrowed them for about ten minutes for sunset wedding photos in Lake Tahoe, and then they went right back to the party.

This is why I’m such a believer in building a wedding photography timeline around how you want the day to feel, not just around a photo list. A first look, two-photographer wedding coverage, thoughtful timeline planning, and keeping everything in one place can create so much breathing room.

And the photos don’t suffer for it. We documented the details, portraits, ceremony, cocktail hour, sunset, and a very full dance floor without Shelby and Dylan feeling like they spent their wedding day with their photographer.

…idk, it’s all a blur. One minute we’re at 8,200 feet as Aaron and Lynn publicly promise forever, next thing I know there are giant red wax lips being passed around at the after party. Also…there was a lot of cake. Truly an iconic Palisades wedding.
