This arrived in the mail last night when Tim was at work. I sent him a picture of it and he asked me how it looked. I asked back don’t you want to open it? When you open it, we can record your reaction. This is what we came up with.
He said he wanted dramatic.👇🏻 by @mountaincatcher

Have you seen what @girltrek is doing? I love it and am participating too. ... I am Angela (1980), daughter of Kathleen Grabow Rossi(1956), daughter of Virginia Hicks Grabow(1921), daughter of Myrtle Hicks(????). I learned yesterday through a conversation with Kathleen (aka mom 😂) that we’re all from Northern Kentucky. Mmmhmmm Kentucky girl here and blood runs deep!
We don’t know any other names in our matrilineal lineage. Nor do we know how my family came to settle in the area.

Great Grandma Myrtle (who was dead before I was born) was a polio survivor and had one leg shorter than the other so wore a platform shoe. My mom speaks so fondly of her Grandma Myrtle and I definitely have a similar fondness toward my MeMa, Virginia. I still have many of my MeMa’s belongings- a handkerchief, a hand mirror, an amethyst solitaire ring, and a wooden music box that plays “Rain Drops are Falling on My Head.” That music box was played by winding up a knob on the side, then you can open the lid of the box to peer through a piece of glass and watch the metal parts move. In my childlike wonder, I imagined that’s what a person’s soul looked like (My family was devout Catholic so I thought about things like this from a young age). The soul was a twisting metal object with bumps variously scattered about, looking like something that wasn’t very pretty, still turning out a beautiful song.

I am struck by the way time is fleeting, so much that names and dearest family members aren’t remembered just 3 generations past. I’m not really sure what the song is.
But I continue to play.

Candles by Carol Light for everyone! This was a special night that we got to spend with these longtime friends. The last we saw Russ and Amy was 15 years ago ... before they got married and had a 10 and 7 year old! • I met Amy when I was studying in Perth, Australia. She came to my wedding 17+ years ago!!! •I met Russ when I was living in Dunedin 16 years ago. ❗️Friends, there are decisions you look back on and regret. Not scraping together the money to go to Russ and Amy’s wedding in Australia from the USA 🇺🇸 ➡️🇦🇺 ➡️ 🇺🇸 is one of mine. I know we can’t do everything, but missing important moments in life like this does separate you. 🔅 I’m so happy we were able to reconnect and catch up after 15 years!!! Happy Holidays.

“Aunt Angel, what do you think the elves are? A girl and a boy? A boy and a boy? Or 2 girls?” “I think they’re non-binary and non-binary.” Blank stares. 😳
After a few seconds... what does that mean? 💗
