Alumni Spotlight | Vincent Chesney, C’97 🎓

This past summer, Vincent Chesney, MS, FAAIDD, C’97, served as the 150th President of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD), planning and leading its historic 150th Annual Meeting. He shared that his inspiration for the program was “…grounded [in the] philosophy learned at the Mount, with Echoes of our student newspaper's motto 'To Serve the Truth' as well as the Mount's focus on servant leadership and hope.”

Head Flag Football Coach Sandi James was featured on ABC News Live in a national story highlighting the women and girls helping shape the future of flag football.

Coach James shared how the sport can inspire, empower and create meaningful opportunities for young women—especially at the college level. Last year, the Mount made history by launching the first women’s flag football team at a Division I school in the Northeast.

As the September breeze starts rolling in and we all start missing the warm summer days, take a look back at when the Mount had its very own outdoor swimming pool and pool house!

Originally known as St. Anthony’s Lake, the spot was repurposed into an outdoor pool in 1943 when the U.S. Navy utilized the campus to train officers under the historic V-12 program. Once winter hit and the water froze over, students would even lace up their skates and hit the ice! ❄️⛸️

Griffin Rooker, Ph.D., BCBA, Director of our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Program, was recently invited to give a lecture at the Princeton Lecture Series on Advancing Autism Care Through Innovation.

His presentation, “Why Does Self-Injury Happen? A Bio-Behavioral Approach to Assessment and Treatment,” highlights that combining biology and life environment into individualized assessments paves the way for safer, higher-quality care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In "The New Believers: Religion and the Contemporary Novel" Dr. Dudley examines the work of Margaret Atwood, J. M. Coetzee, Junot Díaz and George Saunders, exploring how these influential novelists turn to spirituality, hope and care in their fiction to imagine a more compassionate world.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. We remember five Mount alumni who perished in the attacks:

Anthony Gallagher, C’83
Kevin James Murphy, C’83
Andrew Alameno, C’86
Elizabeth Claire Logler, C’91
James Murphy IV, C’93

We also remember the family members, friends, and loved ones of our community who were lost, as well as all those whose lives were altered forever. Their stories remain an enduring part of the Mount’s legacy. May their memory continue to guide us toward lives of faith, service, and purpose.
