❤️‍🔥SOUNDS OF FREEDOM ‘26✊🏾Join us in commemorating Black August with a showcase of radical and revolutionary music 🗓️ Sat, Aug 1 🎶 Doors 6pm, music 7pm🎫 $21 in advance, $26 day of📍@beachlandcle @robesonsingers@muaminco@wanyeh_003@papolevy@mourningablkstar@naturenvokeMC Greg Levy (@greglevy4senate)Each year, we recommit ourselves to the Struggle by observing these 4 tenets:📖STUDY—If we mean to bring about revolution, we must be knowledgable of history, strategy, and tactics. A few books to consider: Blood in My Eye by George Jackson, The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon, Black Marxism by Cedric Robinson, Revolutionary Suicide by Huey P. Newton, The Black Belt Thesis: A Reader by 1804 Books, and Socialist Reconstruction by the Party for Socialism and Liberation. 🙅🏾FAST—Whether through traditional fasting from sunrise to sunset, limiting screen time, omitting animal products, cutting out alcohol, drugs, and junk food, or drinking only water, we will strengthen our will as professional revolutionaries.🏋🏿TRAIN—Mao wrote “In order to civilize the mind one must first make savage the body. If the body is made savage, then the civilized mind will follow.” Physical training can look like: stretching daily, going for a run or walk every other day, training in self defense, climbing, swimming, or dancing, and calisthenics or weight training. The important part is routine and consistency.👊🏾FIGHT—It is our task to move the masses through organization, agitation, and collaboration. While above all, we encourage everyone to join a revolutionary party, the Fight can take many forms. Consider volunteering for local and state electoral campaigns (shout out @greglevy4senate), organizing a reading group, distributing literature (we have a Black Aug zine at @cleliberationcenter), having conversations with your coworkers or fellow tenants about unionizing, or writing letters to political prisoners wrongfully incarcerated. by @mourningablkstar

If you have the opportunity to see @mourningablkstar (Cleveland) and you don’t, what are you even doing? I’m always impressed when a large group of talented people (1) find one another and (2) can get it together and make something happen. They have not only managed to pull that off, but have created something special. A hybrid of R&B, soul, hip-hop, punk influences, the band’s lyrics are unapologetically political, anti-capitalist, feminist, and Black. They have several releases on @dongiovannirecords ; check them out (I swear they aren’t paying me). by @mourningablkstar

FRIDAY FEB 27TH / 8PM-12AM / $10-$30 SLIDING SCALE AT WOOD ST GALLERIESSWEET ABYSS is happy to welcome the inimitable MOURNING [A] BLKSTAR back to Pittsburgh to celebrate our 3year anniversary in a way only they can 🩷 spending the last decade creating music that blends soul, hip-hop, jazz and punk with a powerful message of justice, the multi-generational, genre, & gender nonconforming ensemble is one of our absolute favorite live acts in the world & have truly never ceased to amaze anytime they’re onstage. Emerging from the far away lands of Cleveland, Ohio, their enthralling musicianship & expansive discography has since taken them all over the world with no end in sight. It would be safe to say there’s no “Sweet Abyss” as we know it without the energy they’ve brought to our ears & spirits the last decade - some of you may have also seen members RA Washington & LaToya Kent perform as their duo Me:You at Sweet Abyss at Bantha in May 2025. Poignant, enthralling, familiar, unique, captivating, music that aims straight for your heart 🫀❤️‍🔥They’ll be conducting some deep musical suites at Wood St Galleries on Friday Feb 27th - come as you are! by @mourningablkstar

FRI FEB 27TH / 8PM-12AM / $10-$30 SLIDING SCALE AT WOOD ST GALLERIESSWEET ABYSS 3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND NIGHT 1 features an ensemble realm of live performances & eclectic disc jockeying. These artists represent a deep range of family that music has brought together inside the Sweet Abyss multiverse over the years, bringing together industrial rhythms, diasporic electronic illuminations, exploratory realms of fusion, vision, and groove - and as always, the chaotic vagabond spirit of so-called transgender dance music :)Multi-generational, gender, & genre non-conforming amalgam of black culture MOURNING [A] BLKSTAR joins us from Cleveland to headline the night. Bringing tears & smiles to the ducts & faces of Sweet Abyss family for over a decade, the US-based afrofuturist collective is dedicated to sharing songs & stories of America’s unfolding apocalypse. Their music melds live instrumentation with hip-hop production, creating sonic frequencies that illuminate the African diaspora & never ceases to light up any room they perform in. Truly one of the greatest live acts in the world 🖤💫☄️RUSSELL E.L. BUTLER & MIRA MIRA join forces to close the night out with a collaborative, improvisational live set - combining synthesizer, flugelhorn, delays, echoes of memory, actions against assimilation, & transsexual deviance 😈Local cutie patootie FUNERAL PARADE OF ROSES begins the night with an hour long DJ set + interludes throughout, bringing forth her arcane selections intersecting with experiential industrial rhythm, dub-indebted low end frequencies, & viscerally whimsical occurences. Pointing towards the meanings within desire, anarchic negation, abjection, utopia, & all the above, their sets are deft, daring, & gorgeously atrocious - sure to enthrall all listeners & dancers >:)SLUG BEAT slithers into the roster as the first live act of the night. Exploring untethered phenomena, a psychedelic fusion ensemble is led by devious mastermind Sug on guitar & keys, this time backed by the dextrous trucker girl Johnny Zoloft on percussion & the worst turntablist you’ve ever heard with fake spiritual names to show you how deep she is Kiernan Laveaux on samples/FX/vox by @mourningablkstar
