“If you were to tell someone who was not from here that we live on this planet where there is an elixir of life that flows through its veins, that keeps all creatures alive, that’s recycled through clouds and poured back into the earth — that the tree of life has just unfurled in all of these branches through evolution and just continues to change and change — it sounds fantastical. It sounds magical.”

@willowdefebaugh, on why the language other writers use for other worlds keeps teaching her how to describe this one.

Be moved by nature.

A practice from @willowdefebaugh: think of a non-human animal you feel an affinity toward and spend an hour researching its biology, its behavior, how it moves through the world.

Then journal: what did you find, and why does this animal feel like yours?

“Our re-patterning comes from courageous moments of connection.”

I keep coming back to this from my conversation with @PrentisHemphill. We tend to think of healing as something we do alone in therapy, in our journals, and in moments of quiet reflection. But Prentis is reminding us that the nervous system doesn’t just settle in solitude, it re-patterns and heals in relationship. And recognizing the risk in showing up and in being met.

This takes courage, connection always does.

So much of what we live inside — our laws, our governments, our religions — started as story before it became structure.

Take our relationship with nature. In the West, we’ve largely built it on one story: survival of the fittest. Competition as the engine of evolution. Not wrong, exactly — but partial. It’s one story nature tells, not the whole of it.

The other story is quieter. Collaboration. Symbiosis. Co-evolution. Species that didn’t out-compete each other but grew alongside each other, shaped each other, needed each other to become what they are.

We get to choose which story we build on next.

So many of us learn in our families and in our cultures that healing is the responsibility of the individual and should be done in private. But what if we’re getting it wrong? What if the most potent site for healing is in relationship? @prentishemphill spoke with us about the transformative power of healing in relationship and in the open.

What are the ways that the natural world around us can remind us of the abundance that is available to us? Can it shift us away from relating to ourselves and one another from a place of scarcity? How might we move through the world differently in an economy of abundance?

As we revisit some of our favorite moments from Season 1 of @movdpodcast, we are reminded of some of the wisdom @willowonearth shared with us and want to also share it with you.

“Perhaps lostness is an expansion of your once narrow vision, a step into the doorway of now.” @_lisaolivera reads a passage on lostness from her book, When the Ache Remains, exploring the ways that feeling lost can actually serve as a gateway to deeper knowing and relationship to our truest self. by @movdpodcast

Today, we share a moving conversation with @_lisaolivera therapist, writer, author, mother, adoptee, wife, and photographer.

In this conversation, she graciously shares stories of trauma, loss, grief and healing. She reminds us that living into the fullness that life has to offer means building our individual and collective capacity to grieve. We’re reminded that the world is not as vibrant without the contrast created by shadow and darkness.

“Anything you polish with attention will become a mirror.”

@mariapopova was hiking in Patagonia when looking to the treeline provided insight into this question of when do we stop pushing? When is enough, enough?

As we gaze up a mountain, we will see that the trees simply stop growing at some point…not in defeat, but in an innate knowing: up to here. After this point, it’s not hospitable.

There’s something in that for all of us who are overly persistent in ways that maybe aren’t the healthiest or most aligned for us. Nature reminds us of its wisdom in honoring its limits and not agonizing over them.

Biomimicry is the powerful practice of observing and learning from our non-human kin. @mariapopova shares a bit about what birds teach us about dreams and practicing what we want to feel more bravely about. For birds that’s flying, singing.

What bravery are you practicing in your life? by @movdpodcast

If you close your eyes after staring at a yellow flower, you will see blue — its exact opposite. A conjuring of your own mind.

@mariapopova calls this a reflex, not a construction — something more automatic, more involuntary. Our minds are constantly rendering these persuasive pseudo-realities: vivid, beautiful, convincing.
It’s a small, strange proof of something larger: how much of what feels real to us is reflex dressed up as perception. And maybe the responsibility of having a mind this complex is learning to ask, again and again — what am I actually seeing, and what is my mind simply generating on its own?
