It’s clichè but man, if there’s anything I’ve learned in the past couple of months, heck this past year, it’s that it’s so very true.

I was better at prioritizing myself + movement with one nugget, but now having two I let the other stuff take complete hold of my day (the cleaning, the dinner prepping, the laundry, the grocery shopping, the to-do lists, etc.) for one reason - it’s easier.

It’s the path of least resistance to do all of these things and feel productive. But there was just one thing wrong with that.

I was not putting in the hard work to make sure me, Erica, - not just as a mom - but as a wife, friend, sister, and dreamer was getting tended too as well. And that’s on me. And the anxiety has been weighing on my chest in a heavy way but I’m making some changes, starting today.

I wanted to post this today to remind myself how I felt after lacing up my shoes and running with baby (almost 1 now 🥹) and make a commitment to myself to step back into fitness for myself and for any other mamas that feel this way.

I want to recommit to prioritizing this insanely rewarding part of life called movement. And I want to help build that community of mothers here in charlotte.

Anyway, parent + stroller outdoor workout with resistance bands next Tuesday at 9:30am at Cordelia park with post workout coffee at The Hobbyist. 🏋🏻‍♀️☕️

This weather is practically begging us to have a workout outside ☀️🍁🍂

Send this to a fellow CLT parent to join!

Just a quick personal update - our sweet baby Luca arrived September 2nd and we are feeling so blessed. It’s a new level of craziness and literally making sure everyone is accounted for on most days 😅 But man, have we felt the love grow exponentially in our home.

I’m going to be honest. There was no greater relief than when baby Luca arrived. This fourth pregnancy was incredibly hard on my body. I struggled to make it to the gym once a week (when I thought THIS would be the pregnancy I crush it) and felt incredibly limited in my everyday life when pain would sneak up on me and then have me take a seat in the afternoon (when the children are at their most locooo)

So when I say I feel GOOD I truly mean it. My body feels lighter and the pain I had before has seemingly melted away (TBD) but now we focus on the rebuild.

Rebuilding the core, my basic strength and stamina and then excelling from there.

I’m so excited for this next chapter because it’s one I’ve have to put on hold for roughly 6 years now - get to my strongest I’ve ever been. And I can’t wait to share tools and motivation with you and so much more on the way 💌

I just wanted to take a moment to shout out my husband who is so incredible at making sure I get the time I need when possible to work on myself. As I sit here typing this at the gym, I think about how hard it is for myself to get out the door. I want to throw one more load in, clean up any dirty dishes, help make one more lunch, etc. and he’s the one that says LEAVE ALREADYYY 😅 (even at the start of a bears game.. cubs game? Bears. Sportsball game.)

So thanks for the push, always and ensuring I feel empowered to put me first. by @move.with.erica

I never thought I’d be the one to struggle with preserving my identity in motherhood.

But it turns out, having big identities before becoming a mom has, in some ways, made it harder to make room for this new (ever-evolving) addition that is motherhood.

And as I get ready to welcome baby #4, I’m holding two very different emotions: excitement to close out a physically demanding chapter, and anxiety about what comes next.

Who am I in this next season? Where do I go from here?

I used to think I needed to move in big ways to matter, to make a difference, to come back to self.

But it’s actually of the small moves that bring me back to self.

Moving my body. Coffee with a friend. Talking to a stranger. Blasting the music that once made my teenage heart feel all the feelings. Writing. Journaling.

I always tell new moms to hold on to the things that light them up.

Because I know when I do make space for those things, it also makes space for what’s next — while helping me be a better a mom because I can enjoy this journey more.

I may not know exactly where I’m going next but my kids can see hopefully see a full me in the process - and learn some good taste in music 😉

The other day I felt like just getting sweaty. I wanted a workout that really moved my body, mentally reset me and emotionally recharged me.

This was the ticket 🎫 🔥😮‍💨

Last month I took my children back to my hometown of Newport Beach, California. It was beautiful—but it was also surprisingly conflicting.

For every sweet memory we made, I found myself wondering, How could I ever give my children the childhood I had?

I’ve wrestled with that question for a long time.

Like many parents, I never imagined I’d raise my family somewhere so different from where I grew up. And yet here we are, having built a beautiful life in North Carolina—a village, a community, and a home that has shaped us in ways I never expected.

For a long time, I compared the two places.

I compared the beaches, the weather, the neighborhoods, the pace of life. I could make arguments for both.

But somewhere along the way, my perspective began to shift.

I’ve realized that childhood isn’t simply a place.

It’s a feeling.

For those of us fortunate enough to look back on our childhoods with gratitude, those memories feel almost magical. Maybe they were. Maybe they weren’t. But our parents or the people who loved us created a world that felt safe, joyful, and full of wonder.

Then I look at my own children.

They’re loud, wild, messy, and endlessly curious. They are having different kinds of adventures. But they do have that magic in them that was, or is, in me.

Even on the days I feel like I’m falling short as a mom, I can look at them and know they’re living the childhood that’s becoming their cherished memory.

And maybe that’s all that matters.

A part of me will probably always wish I could give them the place that shaped me.

But another part of me is excited to give them something I never had—a childhood that’s entirely their own. They will hold experiences I never could have imagined.

I hope I can make my roots even more special for them — and that they become a part of their story.

But I hope they also grow up loving the life we’ve built here, because these memories—the ordinary, beautiful ones we’re creating every day—are quietly becoming the foundation of who they’ll be.

Maybe the goal was never to recreate my childhood but to create theirs.

And maybe they’re the luckiest ones of all to touch blue ridge mountains and blue pacific oceans. by @move.with.erica

Perspective is everything. This summer I’m choosing to be more intentional with my days — really ✨our✨days. That means starting the morning on good vibes.

I get up a little before the “big” kids (5 and 3) and chill with baby (nearly 1!), make myself a coffee and have a rough plan for the day.

This summer we are doing weekly themes, so I just choose one activity related to the theme. Helps me add purpose to the day. (Can share more how I used Chat to help me structure this).

But as you well know, how you start a morning makes such a difference to everyone’s day. And I’m training myself as a mom to be proactive and not reactive — in my days, in my attitude, in everything really.

Hope this random decorate-your-own box (ideally, would have been ocean themed but we made do with acrylic paint markers) or make-your-own-yogurt bowls strikes some morning inspo for someone choosing to thrive in motherhood 🌻

Quickest way to:
better regulation of my nervous system
and less reacting and more responding in those tough moments,
And feeling more capable and more energetic in my day to day
Are all the reasons I show up to the work.
*Especially* when I don’t have the perfect plan or just don’t feel like it.

Go get it mama. You have nothing left to lose - only a better version of yourself to gain 🫶🏽

Do any of the shortyyy mamas feel me? The amount of “almost there huh?!”’s I’ve gotten is hysterical.

As a mom with littles this is really my first MAYVEMBER yall and it’s been taking me out. End of school parties, birthday parties, school carnivals, summer prepping and even fall logistics planning — but let me tell you how good it felt to pack that last school lunch (until summer camps start. Which I’m honestly debating if it’s worth it these days). We also have some travel behind us and more travel ahead to visit family. 😮‍💨😮‍💨

Anywho up ahead - will show you a few stretches that have SAVED me for some of my SI joint discomfort and a few random mama wins that I think will be SO helpful this summer. Cheers 🤟🤟

Admission: this is my fourth pregnancy and I’m just learning that the “no crunches ever” rule is outdated and does us a great disservice.

I repeated to others so many times “avoid all flexión of the spine” as a rule of thumb for exercising when pregnant (as if our day-to-day doesn’t require that functional movement).

Anyhow, here is what I learned after seeing my amazing new PT (check out @corabiese if you’re in the area!) and doing my own research (and now looking to update my certification because so much has changed even in just the last 5 years since I had my first babe):

Assisted banded crunches — where you use a band or towel to manually approximate your abs — are not only safe during pregnancy, they actively work against the thing we’re trying to avoid: coning and excess intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) pushing outward on the linea alba.

The band holds your abdominal wall together while you work, so pressure moves inward instead of outward. That’s the whole game with prenatal core training.

✨The Research✨
A 2024 scoping review published in the International Urogynecology Journal found that a wide range of abdominal exercises — including superficial ab work — were effective at reducing inter-rectus distance and improving core function.

The key isn’t which exercise. It’s how it’s performed and whether coning is present.
⚠️Watch for coning (doming at the midline). If you see it → regress immediately.
✅Exhale on the way up → reduces IAP at the moment of effort.
✅Pelvic floor lifts with the movement → it should never bulge downward.
➡️As your belly grows, transition to incline or ball-supported versions of this same movement. Same stimulus, better geometry, less pressure.

You don’t have to stop training your core. You just have to train it smarter. 💪

We are officially *checks app* 19 weeks along on this fourth pregnancy. A couple of takeaways:

- Overall, I feel physically pretty good - I thought I’d be having some severe aches and pains already but so far so good (*knocks on all of the wood*)
- My insomnia has been pretty bad (3:00am unwanted zoom meetings with my thoughts has been the most challenging part bc it ofc affects my entire day)
- my patience has been incredibly short. I’m trying to not make excuses and I’m trying to take in as much *toxic positivity* vs negativity as possible but as much as I want to be light hearted and fun mommy, I have been pretty short tempered. I don’t like it. 🆘
- my workouts have been 2-3x a week. I’m struggling to keep consistent but man do they make a difference when I execute
- I think my anxiety about the what if’s have been overriding my reality lately. Be present. Be present. Be present.
- I act as if I already have 4 kids when my third literally just got here 😅

If you’re feeling any of these things you’re not alone. And if you’ve been extra hard on yourself, I wish I could hug you through this screen. I do believe moving your body is the best medicine. So until I find all of the other answers, I shall continue self-medicating with movement 🏋️💃🏻💪

Postcards from our most recent trip to Costa Rica 🌴

As a SoCal native, anything sand + ocean will recharge my soul. And it’s exactly what this mama needed. I love these slow paced type of vacations where there is no rush or need to be anywhere. Days are simple with packed lunches on slow beaches. Little sweet moments get our full attention. And our family just gets to… be.

Working on a Costa Rica recap or guide of sorts. Let me know what you’d like to see and where your family loves to vacation. 💛
