My teenage years and early 20s were spent parading around with a false sense of confidence, usually fuelled by substances.

“All the gear and no idea,” as we Aussies so eloquently put it.

I think everyone desires to feel confident, but what actually makes that possible?

For me, I’ve boiled it down to capability and adaptability.

Feeling like a strong, capable man fills me with confidence. Knowing within myself that I can meet the circumstances life throws at me, figure things out and adapt when needed, especially with the grace of God working within me.

That feeling has been cultivated over years of building my body, mind and spirit. Simple practices, both inward and outward work. Nothing overly complex. Consistent habits stacked day by day.

Building resilience has been a huge part of this. Choosing to do things that challenge me, whether that’s physical training, having an uncomfortable conversation or stepping into the unknown and starting a business.

Every time I face something difficult, I learn a little more about what I’m capable of.

And when I get it wrong? There’s something to learn there too. I can take responsibility, make adjustments and go again.

I still feel fear. I still doubt myself at times. But I have years of experience to draw on now. Evidence that I can keep showing up, even when I don’t have all the answers.

That gives me something real to trust.

Body. Mind. Spirit.

Build the practice.
Keep your word to yourself.
Give yourself the opportunity to discover what you’re capable of.

There is some seriously skewed messaging out there around what success is supposed to look like, especially in the “manosphere.”

Men preaching 16-hour work days, chasing every material possession, burning themselves out, suppressing emotion and running their nervous system into the ground.

Not the way I’d go about it, but to each their own.

The middle way has always felt best for me. Balanced.

Somewhere between being an absolute savage in the pursuit of building an epic life for my family, and sitting in the garden listening to the birds, finding stillness within myself, being present with each breath and actually feeling what’s there.

We’ve heard it a thousand times:

“Safety first.”

Usually said as a bit of a piss take, but there’s actually something in it.

Build the safe container first.

A place within yourself where you can feel it, accept it, forgive it, understand it.

Then go and show the world who the fuck you are. by @move.withmeaning

Everything changed when I stopped looking outside of myself for a saviour.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had incredible allies along the way. Friends who became family, support networks, mentors and people who inspired me to keep moving, and I’m forever grateful for them.

But the biggest contributor to change in my life has been the way I choose to show up every day.

Cultivating my Faith has helped me stay focused, strengthened my will, given me strength and kept me away from temptation.

But ultimately, it is still me choosing in each moment.

Every single one of us is born with Free Will. The ability to choose to do whatever the fuck we want.

But of course, every action has a consequence.

Faith matters.
Support matters.
But so does responsibility.

Accountability is like kryptonite for a lot of men these days.

I’ve been there many times.

Blaming my shit on something outside of me.
Defending myself.
Justifying my behaviour.
Avoiding the discomfort of admitting that maybe I was wrong.

I think for a lot of men, ownership feels confronting because somewhere along the way we learnt that we’re supposed to have it all together.

Don’t look weak.
Don’t fuck up.
Don’t let people see you struggle.

So instead of owning it, we defend.

But accountability isn’t shame.

Shame says, “I’m a bad man.”

Accountability says, “That was mine. I fucked that up. I own it. What can I learn from it?”

Because what we refuse to take responsibility for, we tend to repeat.

Different relationship.
Different job.
Different circumstance.

Same pattern.

And eventually life has a funny way of making the lesson painful enough that we’re forced to pay attention.

There is strength in being able to say:

Yeah, that was me.

No excuses.

I’ll do better.

Check in with an old friend 📞

The front lever is one of those skills that demand full body integration and activation.

I still don’t fully own this move, my hips need to come up a bit but it’s close and I’ll spend some more time cleaning this up over the next few months. The body felt super connected during this check in after the session this morning where I trained a lot of core stability and anti rotation.

I fell in love with training on the rings around 2017/2018. By far the best piece equipment for cultivating upper body strength, period.
The progressions are endless and it invites in mastering one’s own body weight.

I speak a lot about purpose, responsibility and doing the inner work.

But fuck, life is also here to be enjoyed.

Most of my life, I’ve been surrounded by engines. You name it, we’ve probably had it 😂

I love the smell of petrol.
The sound of a V8.
A 1000cc bike screaming on the limiter.

Give me all the pistons.

Take.
My.
Money.

The vision ain’t cheap, homies.

The relationship between man and machine is something you either understand or you don’t.

That feeling of adrenaline pumping through my veins…

Fuck, there’s nothing like it.

But I also love stillness.

The sound of the wind moving through the mountains. The birds. The water. The moments where everything inside me becomes quiet.

It doesn’t have to be this or that.

I don’t have to choose between the roar of an engine and the silence of nature. Between intensity and peace. Between responsibility and play.

I think that’s what I’m really beginning to understand.

Life isn’t asking us to become one-dimensional.

It’s asking us to experience the whole fucking thing.

What makes you feel alive?

When was the last time you explored your environment in a non-linear fashion?
Unpolished, uncertain, unknown.
The masks of perfection are everywhere online.
Polished programs, perfect reps, chiseled aesthetics.
I don’t necessarily hold something against that either, everything has its place and purpose, but, as I’ve grown older I noticed my mind and practices can tend to lean towards this rigid & linear structure.
Explorative practices like soft acrobatics & locomotion pull me out of the head and invite me back into the body.

Playfulness is an integral part of not only my practice but of my life in general, especially as I’m getting older and life’s responsibilities grow, I don’t want to lose that fun, playful spirit. by @move.withmeaning

There comes a point in a man’s life where something has to die.

Not his playfulness.
Not his curiosity.
Not the wildness in his heart.

But the boy who believes life is only about him.

For me, manhood has been an initiation into Responsibility.

Into sacrifice.

Into choosing devotion when selfishness would be easier.

Partnership has taught me that love is far more than a feeling. It is a practice.

To see another fully.
To be seen fully.
To choose each other through change.
To hold one another accountable.
To forgive.
To grow.
To serve something greater than either individual.

Sacred union doesn’t ask us to disappear into one another.

It asks us to become more fully ourselves, while building something neither of us could create alone.

The boy asks, “What can life give me?”

The man begins to ask, “What am I willing to give my life to?”

That, to me, is devotion. by @move.withmeaning

There’s something powerful about finding out what your body is truly capable of.

Not just how much you can bench.

Can you run? Sprint? Climb? Fight? Move with control? Express yourself? Endure discomfort? Stay mobile as you age?

Strength matters. So does mobility, coordination, power, endurance and play.

Your body is an incredible gift.

Don’t spend your whole life wondering what you could have done with it.

I believe one of our greatest missions in this life is to express what lives within us.

Not who the world tells us to be.
Not what is trending.
Not what makes us easiest to accept.

But the authentic expression of our soul.

For some, that’s movement.
For others, it’s music, fashion, poetry, painting, building, speaking, dancing or creating something that didn’t exist before.

There are endless forms of expression.

Find the ones that make you feel alive.

Explore them. Play with them. Let them evolve with you.

You weren’t put here to become a copy of somebody else.

Let your life become an expression of your soul. by @move.withmeaning

“Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” - Bruce Lee

Hustle culture has convinced us that rest is weakness.

Work more hours.
Wake up earlier.
Drink another coffee.
Push harder.
Get ahead.
Achieve more.

And then we wonder why we can’t switch off.

Cortisol isn’t inherently bad. It has an important role in the body.

It naturally rises around the time we wake, helping mobilise energy, increase alertness and prepare us to meet the demands of the day.

Our stress and dopamine systems also interact, so progress, pressure and achievement can feel motivating and rewarding.

The problem isn’t activation.

The problem is never coming back down.

We work under pressure all day, use excessive caffeine to keep pushing, stare at screens to “switch off,” neglect proper nutrition and then take that stimulation straight into bed.

Our bodies may be exhausted, but our systems are still being told:

Stay alert.
Keep consuming.
Keep performing.
There’s more to do.

Over time, sustained stress and disrupted recovery can affect sleep, mood, digestion, immunity, blood pressure, metabolism and our ability to regulate emotion.

This is why yin-based practices matter.

Qi Gong gives me an opportunity to step out of constant output and practise receptivity.

To breathe.
To slow down.
To cultivate energy rather than continually expend it.

For me, it also develops emotional containment, which is the ability to feel deeply without suppressing what I feel or unconsciously spilling it onto the people around me.

Maybe genuine optimisation isn’t about fitting more into the day.

Maybe it’s developing the capacity to recognise when it’s time to perform and when it’s time to return to yourself.
