“Playing With Fire” is a groundbreaking musical theater concept album that finds its inspiration in Mary Shelly’s seminal 1818 novel, “Frankenstein”, yet by blending electronic rock and pop with classical music from the dynamic pairing of @nsync superstar @jcchasezofficial & @goldenglobes winning songwriter/composer/producer @thejimmyharry … truly something special seems to have been brought to life. The re-imagining of the classic story was birthed when Jimmy shared with JC an acclaimed theatrical adaptation of the story written by his late mother, playwright Barbara Field. Ive been blessed to call these two talented kind men my close friends and their family my own for the last two decades and watch this truly incredible project come to fruition through every step of the way. @pwfmusical at the core of its story is one about discovering sympathy, love and forgiveness for one another.. and that to me is a reflection of the two voices that brought this story to life for us all. This portrait was captured on a @fuji.gfx 50s in the studio that this album was written and created in, located in the Hollywood Hills. It’s a creative music candy store of limitless possibilities… the perfect place to spend a day creating with my friends and have fun together. We shot some incredible portraits that day that i’m excited to hopefully share sometime in the future yet for now - this is one of them, the first, that premiered in @billboard & @rollingstone today as an exclusive announcement. Big 🙏🏻 to my insanely talented good friend @robpolgar2 as i couldn’t have made this day and portrait series come through without his A+ skills & knowledge.

Here’s some of the lessons that I’ve discovered can be anchoring elements in our growth to unleash the best of ourselves - (1) We have to learn from our past but don’t get stuck there. (2) It’s vital that we express ourselves and be confident in who we truly are. (3) Focusing on the present moment means to truly absorb it and make the most of it. (4) Disconnecting includes doing so without the fear of missing out or being left out. (5) Seriously think about the people you choose to have around you. Then commit to surrounding yourself with those who selflessly elevate you and who you do so in return. (6) Forgive.. Forgive.. Forgive.. this means most importantly forgive yourself. (7) Don’t hesitate to create new memories through authentic positive life experiences. (8) Don’t quit on what you truly believe in that inspires you... ever. (9) Never read more than 8 points... ok just seeing if you really made it this far. 📷 @pedrocantizani taken in Tribeca, New York, New York by @movefilms

I grew up in Burbank, California.. just 2 blocks away from Randy Rhoads and his family. He was a hometown hero to us all and one of the coolest guys ever to never hesitate to entertain a bunch of us young kids on our bmx bikes with insane guitar riffs and solos when visiting his parents. I’ll never forget the day Ozzy came to our collective of streets after Randy’s passing.. there was a dark cloud of sadness over the neighborhood and somehow he lifted it off us that day with love. I was never a Sabbath fan.. yet Blizzard of Ozz remains one of my favorite albums.. and Ozzy… to me.. will live forever.. not just for his music… yet as an honorary Burbankian as well. RIP Madman. by @movefilms

Since his first release, @kevindevriesmusic has been on an astronomical ascent, carving out a niche for show-stopping, hybrid techno. When a Kevin De Vries track shakes the room, time seems to pause, hang in the air and come crashing back down with unmistakable drama. His music pushes sound-systems to their limit, at once drawing on the power of techno and the euphoria of trance in a way unique to De Vries. Kevin’s DJ sets translate the singular energy of his own music into extended journeys from cutting-edge sounds to 90s classics and back again. De Vries has become a firm favorite of the Afterlife faithful and a vital recording artist, with many event appearances and contributions to the label.

Danish native @kolschofficial has been rewriting the rulebook on techno production since he came onto the scene, setting it on a melodic, emotion-‐induced course with critically acclaimed work that draws inspiration from his culturally diverse upbringing (1/2 Irish, 1/2 German and living in Denmark). He produced one of the biggest club hits with his remix of London Grammars “Hell to the Liars” and his single “Grey” became a sensation with over 2 million views on YouTube, 10 Millions streams on Spotify and went straight to BBC Radio 1 daytime radio. His remix of Coldplay’s “A Sky Full of Stars” is a personal favorite of my own and in contrast to Avicii’s blissful bouncy work, Kölsch replaces it with a glittering emptiness sharing the sound of a sky full of stars, but with no one on Earth to share them with.

What would come of the pairing of these two would be a meeting between two generations of dance music, with the Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch of 2023, who has quickly built and diversified his release catalogue, and the former, who has established himself as a leader in between the worlds of melodic-techno and deep-house—delivering two dance floor mini epic singles “Gate” and “Masterplan”.

Together they took the decks at Yuma at Coachella for one of the weekend’s most acclaimed club atmosphere sets. 📷 @movefilms by @movefilms

Kayus Bankole, Alloysious Massaquoi and Graham “G” Hastings formed the Young Fathers in 2008, naming the group after the fact that all three members were named for their fathers. They released their debut album “Dead” in 2014, which would go on to win the Mercury prize and established themselves out of the gate as a group wholly resistant to categorization.

Multi-racial, genre-less, rooted in possibility, heavy heavy underpinnings; they combine dissonant guitars, pulsating percussion, moving hip-hop bars, uniquely placed gospel runs, and crunchy electronics all with the result of keeping listeners on edge. Refreshingly sonically unique, the group seems to set out to expand the horizons of what music can make us feel.

Seeing them live is unquestionably where audiences will experience this even more profoundly. At their most intense on stage, Young Fathers are uniquely hypnotically captivating and utterly engulfing to the degree that it’s easy to find oneself suspended in time. At their most anthemic they are emotionally uplifting and consciously aware of the power of their unified voices along with the weight that carries with it an opportunity to amplify intentionality behind bold lyrics. This never rang more true than what I witnessed first hand at Coachella with their performance.

This past year, the group won the Scottish Album of the Year Award for the third time. This year, Young Fathers were nominated for Best British Group, Best Rock/Alternative Act and Best British Album for the album “Heavy Heavy” at the 2024 BRIT Awards.

As the Edinburgh band is writing and experimenting with recording new songs during this current tour, critics and fans alike (including new fans like myself who are now exploring their discography) can only anticipate what exciting directions the band will explore next. In the meantime for now, one direction is simply undeniable..forward. Until then, Young Fathers are not to be missed seeing live, so don’t find yourself being left behind. 📷 @movefilms by @movefilms

Kokoroko is a proclamation in the Urhobo language of Nigeria to “be strong”, and if you’re wondering if the female-lead afrobeat-driven jazz, soul, funk group knows a thing or two about channeling their inner strength; this is a group that has its origins in Kenya in 2014 in the town of Meru. It was here where bandleader & trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey and percussionist Onome Edgeworth were both spending time working with an arts organization, teaching young people art, dance and English and getting to know one another. The group would soon come together, with members coming from the Trinity Laban Conservatory, the school where Fela Kuti studied jazz before defining Afrobeat when living in England.. and would burst into the public view in 2018 with “We Are Out Here”. Perhaps you were lucky enough to catch their set at Coachella 2024.. and if you missed it, perhaps you won’t choose to make that mistake again. 📷 @movefilms by @movefilms
