We’ve spent a lot of time introducing you to the women behind our work. Figured it was probably time we introduced ourselves. 👋

We’re Angie @tradieforlife + Kate @kategl ✨co-founders of @moveoverbob .

We came to the trades for very different reasons, but somewhere along the way we realized we were trying to solve two sides of the same problem: girls deserve to know these careers exist sooner, and the women who choose them deserve more support when they get here.

So we built Move Over Bob.

What started with a magazine has grown into something much bigger and we have a lot more planned for where this goes next.

If you’ve read the magazine, shared a post, welcomed us onto your job site, put us in front of your students, told us your story, partnered with us, or simply followed along, you’re helping us build it and we’re really glad you’re here. 🫶

@moveoverbob Magazine is gearing up for another year of blasting women’s stories far and wide.

We felt the magic on the historic bridge that day because it was the first time we got a real taste of what it might feel like to capture the kinds of role models we want to pass on to young girls everywhere.

A year later, our commitment to getting these role models into middle schools and high schools to show off their careers to young women is stronger than ever

Our hope is that they won’t have to grow up asking themselves, what if?

What if an image of who you could become looked like this?

Where would you be today if you’d known your options were bigger? If you’d known you were so much bigger than the world you were brought into?

Women aren’t just entering the trades, we been here and we’re going to continue shaping them.
From woodshops and manufacturing to aerospace, underwater work, welding, engineering and industries people once said weren’t “for women,” we are building, leading, creating, and leaving our mark.
Making space for women in the trades isn’t a trend. It’s history full circle.
And never underestimate the woman standing next to you.

Organizations like @newstrongwomen help make that possible through free training and support. In MOB Mag’s Fall Issue 4, we follow Cas McCarthy’s path from nearly 20 years in healthcare to a paid union apprenticeship.

You can’t choose a career you don’t know exists.

Kristen had already worked in cosmetology and set design and knew she still hadn’t found the right fit. Machining definitely wasn’t on her radar.

Then a friend convinced her to attend a Women in Industry event at her local community college. She walked into the machine shop and knew pretty quickly she’d found something worth pursuing.

A few years later, she returned to the same event that introduced her to machining but this time as the keynote speaker.

Today, Kristen works as a machinist in Texas, making precision parts for industrial gear pumps and using so many of the skills she’d had all along: math, problem solving, creativity, attention to detail, and working with her hands.

There are so many skilled careers young people never get the chance to consider simply because no one has shown them what’s out there.

That’s why career exposure matters and we’re excited to get Kristen’s story into as many young girls hands as we can. Meet Kristen in the latest issue of Move Over Bob Magazine. 💥

There’s a pink hangar in Vermont where girls as young as 8 are learning aviation by building a real airplane. ✈️🩷

More than 100 girls and women, ages 8 to 70+, have already picked up the tools to help build it and Habitat for Aviation has an even bigger vision: create more spaces where girls can get hands-on, build skills and see themselves in aviation.

This is the kind of work we want more people to know about and support.
