I’ve always loved sports — the raw honesty of them. The emotion. The vulnerability. There’s no hiding or pretending or faking it. Your coach, your team, your opponents: they see you fully. The body you brought is a tool, but the mindset you’ve forged is your weapon.

The weights you push are exactly what they say on the plates. You either choose to push through pain or you don’t. You finish your reps or you take shortcuts. You can be surrounded by teammates or competitors or absolute strangers but no matter what, it’s always always always: you vs. you.

You earn the version of yourself shaped by the journey. Shaped by trying. Shaped by showing up. Shaped by doing the shit you said you would do.

And when you get to do it with a group of women who challenge you, encourage you, put in the hours when nobody’s watching, and then show up and still have the humility to laugh at themselves and cheer for each other…

Well that shit is just magic.

At 6 years old my Russian ballet teacher Ms. Gretchen was frustrated with me for stomping around like a football player 😂😂 She tried a lot of things to make me more graceful. I said no thanks ✌️👋 this sport is not for me

And it’s true, ballet wasn’t my sport. I didn’t enjoy it at alll. Thankfully, volleyball was. I loved it!! And now bodybuilding is 💪🍗

And learning/developing the SKILL of graceful, to be successful in my sport, is something I must do.

I thought I just wasn’t a graceful person.

Having worked hard to build a growth mindset and approach to my life, now I know it’s just going to require practice. Humility. Effort. And feedback/pointers from professionals lol.

It’s okay that it doesn’t come easy to me. Bench press didn’t at first either but now that’s my shiiiiii.

Skills can be learned. Labels can be unlearned.

“I’m not a graceful person” ➡️➡️➡️ “I’m learning to pose more gracefully.”

THE SCIENCE: lifts, cardio, nutrition, sleep.

This part is easy(ish) to me. 👩🏻‍🔬🔬🧪

It makes sense. It’s simple math.

THE ART: posing.

This part doesn’t come naturally to me. 🎨👩🏻‍🎨🫟

But after a certain number of hours/reps, it won’t matter.

I will learn it, and I will be excellent. And that’s that.

What skills are you learning right now? What labels are you unlearning?? 🩷 by @movewith_mic

Wherever you’re at on your fitness journey, just keep going 🩷 the choices stack up and the results will come. I promise 🤝

what’s in your way? move it. ⚡️
is there something stopping you? get creative. 🫵
what’s holding you back? let go of it. 🕊️
why haven’t you started? be honest with yourself. 🫶

So many blockades and explanations are really just inconveniences we’ve accepted as reasons.

In short… excuses.

You like their grass better because you’ve neglected yours. Water yours. Mow yours. Plant some trees or some flowers or whatever feels lovely to you.

Become so obsessed with your own yard that you can look at another’s with appreciation and respect…

Instead of welling up with jealousy because you know you could have chosen that, but didn’t.

Turn your excuses into reasons.

Find creative ways to make it work.

And then just keep building on that every day.

The person you become by doing that?

Let’s just say one day you’ll look around at your green, green grass. You’ll breathe deep and feel pride, along with the deep desire to never go back to how it was before.

And then you’ll realize…

It was never about getting your grass greener anyway.

It was always about who you become along the way.

over halfway through prep. this week brought some surprising speed bumps & exposed some weird mindsets i had previously believed myself to have conquered.

it’s true — i had dug deep enough to hit water at that time.

but the water is somewhere deeper down now. and i need to dig again.

that’s okay.

if there’s one thing i know about myself…

it’s that I’ll do it.

We really overcomplicate things. I realized today, this is usually when I start thinking about some big New Year’s resolution. And this is the first time in my life I can genuinely say, there’s nothing I need to change or adjust going into the new year. I am finally fully aligned. As I continue to evolve, I’m sure there will be plenty of tweaks and corrective shifts along the way. But for now I’m going to just soak it in. That I’m doing the work. I’m being exactly who i am.

And all I have to do is keep going. 🫶
