If you did one of my classes a year ago they’d probably feel completely different to the way I teach today.

One of the biggest changes has been how I think about a warm-up.

I used to see it as something you did before the workout. Now I see it as the foundation of the entire class.

Sometimes we start with footwork. Sometimes we don’t. It all comes back to the intention behind it.

I’m thinking about waking up the upper body, lower body and core. Building awareness. Creating connection. Preparing your body for what’s coming next. Making sure every exercise builds on the last.

Movement isn’t linear and neither are my warm-ups. I’m still guided by the Pilates principles. I just love exploring different ways to bring them to life in a dynamic and intentional way.

Because great classes aren’t about doing more. They’re about knowing why you’re doing it 🤎 taken in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia by @movewithshinead

STEAL MY CLASS 🤍🤍

Your next 45 minute all levels reformer class using the box in a stuck position.

I personally love challenging myself to get creative with no spring changes and keeping the same box placement the whole class. This really helps me as well when I have those days when I struggle to think about what to teach and this habit always helps my creative brain to kick in.

If you go back through my recent class plans you would see a lot of the same movements repeated but just done differently.

I taught a lot of these same movement patterns at the start of the week but on heavier springs, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you plan a class, you can simply do different springs, focuses, layers, props or positioning so clients are still progressing and getting the benefits but it feels different.

When working with the whole room being on the same spring it’s important that you have layers and options to cater to everyone’s different strengths. Make sure they have purpose, build upon each other and make sense.

For best flow after last slide in this order on opposite side - 7, 4, 5 & 6 with side planks being the finisher.

SPRINGS:
Whole class - Y^/ High Yellow

✨ INTRO POST ✨

I thought it was about time to reintroduce myself! I am Shinead (shin-nay-d) @shinead.alyse, and I’ve been a Pilates & Reformer instructor for 2 years now!! 🤍

I got into Pilates around the age of 16 due to scoliosis, and my physio gave me a printout of all the Joseph Pilates movements (I still have this!) to practice.

I found some Pilates workouts on YouTube and fell in love with the method, and I have been practicing in studio and online ever since, 10 years later!

I never thought I would ever be an instructor, as I was terrible at public speaking and lacked confidence, but I threw myself into the deep end and chose discomfort over playing small, and here I am today! Best decision I have ever made! ✨

Over the past 2 years, I have found my voice and my niche for teaching, Pilates-led, strength-focused movement. If you’ve been to one of my classes, you would know they are always challenging even just using body weight (sorry not sorry!), as I blend these 2 methods, all whilst focusing on body awareness so you can get the most out of every movement, hence why they are challenging. 💪

I love to encourage and support you to feel your strongest and most empowered self. I want you to get out of your head and into your body so you can feel every single muscle and leave my classes knowing you can do hard things! ❤️

I am now in the process of turning my Pilates career into a business, so follow along for the journey, so many exciting things to come!! ✨

STEAL MY CLASS ❤️‍🔥

Your next 45 minute reformer all levels class using a set of dumbbells.

This one was a goodie! Targeting unilateral, deep core work and a tonne of upper body this one doesn’t miss. Instantly added to my favourites.

For best flow mirror back from the rollbacks finishing in the reverse lunge series straight into pikes on the forearms.

Definitely get clients to grab weight options if needed.

SPRINGS:

Warm Up — RRY, RRB or RRBY
Rest of class — Blue/Medium spring or lighter for arms

Why? Because it’s actually warming up the core, arms and lower body.

If there’s purpose and intention behind it and you’re waking up the three main muscle groups you’ll be using in your workout, it can be done lying, kneeling or standing.

There’s no right or wrong position for a warm-up as long as it’s preparing the body for what you’re about to do.

For best flow, after plank repeat the other side of the lunge then move straight into your class. Can be done on any spring.

STEAL MY CLASS 🌺

Your next 45 minute all levels class plan using light dumbbells.

Big focus on lateral raises and chest flys hence the lighter weight choice with a full body focus.

Lots of coordination and control in this one as well. I show you step by step the layers and how I build to the peak poses to best set up your clients to achieve whatever feels good for them.

Best flow mirror back after the plank and row series finishing with the lunges and then a plank on the forearms to top it all off.

SPRINGS:
Warm up — All Springs
Rest of class — either Y^ or B

STEAL MY CLASS ✨

Your next 45 minute flow reformer class using the box in a long position.

These are a personal favourite of mine to both create and teach! They are all about the transitions and getting clients seamless flowing from one movement to the next.

It is all about clear cues and prepping the clients in the lead up so they can keep moving. They are the kind of class where time flies, heart rate gets elevated and all the muscles are working.

All transitions are shown so you can witness how I kept them moving. For best flow mirror back from the rollback series -> 4PK -> plank -> curtsy / arabesque. You can literally transition from the arabesque in the single knee tuck to stand in the curtsy, give it a go!

SPRINGS:
Whole class - medium or blue spring
