This is the time of year when I start wondering why is it so taboo to talk about our own mortality and so few of us have end of life plans? Halloween is an ancient pagan reflection on mortality. In some cultures this is the time of year to honor the dead. But we’ve gotten so far away from it here in the USA. What are your thoughts on Halloween and where we are as a culture in our relationship to death? #halloween #sandiego #encinitas #deathcare #rituals by @movingthroughdeath
Thanks to all those who showed up this past Saturday at Death Cafe Encinitas! People may think when we talk about death the conversation is dark and depressing. More often than not the conversations are filled with laughter, stories of our loved ones who have died, shared stories of grief, and also light bulb moments! This is where I’ve had some of my deepest, most profound and insightful conversations. Come see what the most interesting and unique discussion group is all about! Next Death Cafe is October 24th. See you then! Join me at Death Cafe this Saturday, September 26th 10:00-11:30am at Seaside Center for Spiritual Living @seasidecenter We are afraid of what we don’t know. Let’s unpack this in a safe and inviting environment where the only topic is death and dying! See you there! PS I didn’t swallow any helium! @movingthroughdeath @thedeathnetwork @deathcafe #sandiego #encinitas #carlsbad #spirituality #community by @movingthroughdeath
I am tending to someone who has a terminal illness and is eligible for Medical Aid In Dying, which is legal here in California. She is choosing to depart tomorrow. I’m packing my doula bag so come with me and I’ll show you what I’m packing to prep for a vigil and home funeral. Contents: tissues, LED tea lights and candles, essential oils, crystals, singing bowl, scarves for shrouding, blessings, sage, copal. The shroud, bowl and washcloth for washing will be provided by the family. I’ll bring flowers and foliage on my way tomorrow. The Anubis is my little friend I bring. She is the guardian of the dead. What items would you add? @thedeathnetwork @movingthroughdeath #deathcare #homefuneral #rituals #sandiego #encinitas Do Death Different by @movingthroughdeath
